Tampa's News/Talk station

Interesting...never heard it...but I did apply at WPLP {as well as several other stations} back in the early 80's, called back three times for interviews, then said they were not interested.

Clear Channel selectively values 700 WLW above most of their AM talkers. They don't subject WLW to the same budget restraints that they do their other stations, and there's very little micromanaging from the company. If a local show host leaves, he/she will most likely be replaced with another local host.

Cincinatti is a big Clear Channel market. They make a lot of money there and they own four FM stations, four AM stations, and one TV station. All their FMs cover the market, and the three most powerful AM signals in Cinci, two of which are class A, belong to Clear Channel.

They're trying, but it seems that station has a curse now where you won't succeed in syndication if you stay at WLW. Kind of like WTKS-FM. Gary Burbank tried syndication, failed, and went back to local at WLW. Mike McConnell's mid-day show has been in syndication for a year and doesn't even have 20 affiliates, and only five of them are live.

Too bad they can't "selectively value" all of their stations. If they did, all of their markets would be as successful as Cincinnati.
