Huh? Poli-gripers in Clearwater, Rednecks in Dade City, Blue Hairs in Z-hills, Moonshiners in Arkansas.

;D

Several years ago I was on WTAN. I did an interview on "The Criminal Justice Forum' cause I used to be semi-important in Pinellas Co. Actually I am a real person who used to do stuff besides post here.

What Tan-Talk did was obviously to post some boilerplate copied from some industry website such as the Radio Advertising Bureau, with generic data about the kinds of people who listen to talk stations -- mostly the ones with big signals and listeners that can be measured with at least three or four 000's -- and passed it off as "research" for potential clients. People on this board might hope that small businesses finally realize that advertising on a small brokered AM is worse than useless -- but there's one born every minute. Or, at least there were before 1980 -- I doubt any small business owner under that age even knows what AM radio is, or if they do know, care.

At least the Wagi's didn't post copy tent-poled with their usual crutches:

"For less than the cost of..."

"And the best part is..."

"Call today, and your (blank) can (blank) tomorrow!"

With so many unserved pieces of the listening pie, why anyone would not try for one of them is beyond me. WGUL was not dead last when it was sold to Salem and dropped Adult Standards. Despite what was posted on another thread on this suggestion, I think 105.5 plays what could be considered jockless oldies, which is NOT what Standards are. With a little imagination this could be presented as a 'new' retro cool sound. And it could be easy to test... just move the infomercials as much as possible into one daypart, and let the swing sound have their piece of the day. Promote it as best you can, and let the ratings book tell you in a couple of months if you have something to sell. I'd bet you would.

WTAN is like 1360 in Pittsburgh. the signal simply no longer covers the listening area. WGUL covered the area much better. I would like MOYL back, but living in the Temple Terrace area,WTAN barely comes in and not at all at night.

Hey MsMusicRadio, why limit yourself to WTAN when you have the ENTIRE Tan-Talk Network of fine stations to choose from? You could say, tune into 1350 in Dade City. It's a 1000 watt flamethrower in the daytime and 1000 watts...ooops 500 watts at night when they remember to lower power. Not sure if they ever got the phasor fixed, so they might be running non-directional 24/7. ;D

But by doing brokered programming, he has maybe one employee at each station? Maybe just one employee, period. Just sit back and collect checks.

Any other format would require someone to go out and sell, and trying to build that from the ground up in this economy has a snowball's chance in South St. Pete.

There are those who think that WMNY ( Pittsburgh) can be rebuilt into a radio powerhouse based on programming to 50 plus women, so why not TAN TALK? ??? ???

Ever hear the Islam hour on Saturdays with the big echo and mixed language sentences. It's actually a little scary to hear. Sounds like our own back yard JIHAD

The people who believe that are delusional.

Personally, I wish the FCC would put these snake oil salesmen out of business and start cleaning up the AM dial. Let's start getting rid of the hash and overlap.

Eventually they and their money would find their way to the smaller FM's and ply their wares. AM is dead, so keep 'em there.

Interesting. I remember when Wagi and Lola were selling air-time to The National Alliance in Dade City. Anything for a buck, even if it spews open racism. These guys have no conscience.

OK... so forget about 1340 (although what kind of act of Congress would be required to get the FCC to up the power? - it might give a new lease on life for AM). How about trying something more imaginative with 1250? If Impact Radio insisted on doing business talk during the day, try the tunes (at first) in the evening. I'd bet the ratings would encourage a slow (maybe not so slow) shift to daytime.

Didn't Scott Robbins prove the viability of unique music when he did the doo-wop on 1040 in the evening when they were otherwise just simulcasting Mix 96? If I recall, they got ratings, but management just wasn't interested.

Parttimer, I believe I saw on another post of yours that you stated you are in Pittsburg? Did you ever live in Ocala or Dunnellon (Florida)?
