Tape cassettes

Hi All.Any of you still use cassettes for recording.I think the last time that I record onto cassette got go back to the 1990's.Excluding repairs for customers.Walmart still stocks C-90's in my local store.I went digital with my desktop in 1998 .minidisc in 2001.

You betcha. I'm still getting the hang of this newfangled Internet deal (for the last 15 years, to be exact).

I record DX from remote areas, and I don't have the wherewithal to use the more modern stuff.

It may come to me eventually! :p

I wonder when the stores will stop carrying cassettes.Minidisc's are still available over the internet or from stores like B&H.VHS probably soon fade away into the media sunset.

VHS is already getting hard to find. I have a commercial grade VHS VCR that I still use for timeshifting. The video on it is quite acceptable, even on a large screen, though certainly no match for a blue ray disc.

I read somewhere recently that a group of so-called audio "enthusiasts" prefer cassettes to digital. I suppose they must like hiss. I haven't listened to a cassette tape in well over 10 years. The random access of digital did it for me. No more FF or RW.

With digital if the power drops out for a second or two .What ever it recorded will be corrupt and gone. With analog there will only be a glich in the recording.I dont trust my dvd recorders due to crappy discs or worring about power outages so i run vhs back ups at the same time.

Also, any analog TV DX is *only* with VHS. It must be constant and decent reception to get it onto DVD. I know----I tried dubbing my old TV DX onto DVD....ferrrrr-get it!

Now, if I get TV DX of digital TV stations, I still use VHS as well; but if I wanted to dub onto DVD, I would see no problem.

TV DX is a lot different now.

I ran a scan during a strong ducting event and picked up stations from >700 miles. Occasional dropped pixel, but perfect reception during the ducting event. No static and waiting... LOL. Took some of the fun out of it.

One major problem I've had with digital recorders is airchecking AM on the road. A lot of them throw out a lot of noise and they need to be situated far from the receiver. Netbooks are great for AM as long as you find a good charger if you need. I went thru 3 chargers before finding one that didn't light up the dial when plugged in.

I have a good portable recording cassette walkman I use if I need to tape AM on the road. My Grundig G8 works well enough for FM with the headphone jack providing "clean enough" audio to make a recording. I've actually tried some other portables with a "line out" option, but the tuners, while very sensitive, don't sound so good and the recordings are actually much worse.

I have no problem with my Roland Edirol digital recorder on the road as long I dont use the power adapter along with the AC inverter. It will sound like a subsitute for an Iboc generator.I will get about 3 plus hours of nonstop airchecking with Duracell 2000mah batteries. This past summer when I was traveling in New Jersey,Upstate NY plus the state of Mass.It worked great with the setup I built for on the road airchecking which is a GM Delco AM stereo/FM stereo/Cassette with a line out mod for recording. With a whip mounded on the roof rack. The power pack work ok on FM with the strong station but crappy with alittle whine with the weak stations. With a inverter I could use a old home cassette deck in the car just to get a old time feeling.Hahaha.
