Taped news on KPHX?

I was listening to the news at 6 a.m. on KPHX with Dewey Hopper. It sounded like old news, then he said "and the weather for today and Wednesday will be......"

I am surprised that KPHX tapes the news, and further shocked that they would play it again the next day. If Hopper isn't there to read it, couldn't they get somebody else, or have a filler? Or explain why there will be no news? KPHX can't be that automated.

Maybe I should quite listening to them.

When you operate on a shoestring budget, sometimes you get taped news!

I used to work at an AM station in the 80s that was essentially voicetracked. The station only had one personality and he would record a few weather reports just in case. One cart was marked "Weather: It's Raining" and another "Weather: It's Snowing." If it wasn't raining or snowing, I just played the regular forecast. Good times! ;D

1) You can actually hear the Big 1480 at 6:00am prior to April?

2) If canned news is good enough for the top-rated (Russ would of course disagree)
news/talker 55/FYI during off-peak hours, it's good enough for the hardly-rated
KPHX in morning drive. ;D

C'MON!!!!
It is the status quo to voicetrack...even news AND even traffic!!

Are you kiddin me? Tell me ANYONE would even notice if a traffic break was recycled?
"Lots of slowing on the 101, the 202, the 10, the 17, the 51 and the 60."

From 7:00 am - 9:00 am & 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm.

Everyday.

Monday thru Friday.

Welcome to modern terrestrial radio, folks.

Get used to it!!!

...SOP. The automation system there does screw up more than it should -- there have been times when it mysteriously plucked a weeks-old segment of my "Audible Scribblings" weekend show out of the ether and sent it out on the air in place of that week's piece -- but in most markets Chump Channel is an even worse offender (at least Dewey is in town, whereas the Chump Channel cluster in Milwaukee has their news read for them by some joker at the Cleveland cluster!)...
