Tara Servatius WBT

I liked her at first but Tara Servatius has become such a bore in the afternoons on WBT in my opinion. They should have Hancock air in the afternoon slot instead of the 6-9 slot.

I find that she is repetitive, shrill and not really professional. However, I agree with a lot of her opinions, but I cannot listen to her for long.

On the other hand, I totally agree about Hancock in the afternoons, I can listen to him for hours and totally enjoy every minute.

I think she is much better than she use to be, but yes she should not be in afternoon drive. I think Hancock should have that slot as well.

I think what BT forgot is that it takes more than a great investigative reporter to do an entertaining talk radio show. What she lacks is the on-air experience to do afternoon drive on a 50kW in top 25 market, and it shows. I also agree that old Hancock would have been a great choice for the afternoon drive position.

So now I find myself punching between Hannity and Packer.

I agree with WNCC about Tara being better than she used ot be, but she is still not the afternoon drive quality for a 50KW blowtorch in this market. She is also a top notch investigative reporter, she knows her stuff and does outstanding research, she just does not have the personality or delivery to be on the air in Afternooon drive here. She is so lucky about the way she found her way into this job, first as an occasional fill in, then a regular fill in finally her own late night show then afternoon drive. Too bad I am never lucky like that.

Just another right wing hate-talker as far as I'm concerned.

Is that all you can say whenever someone brings up conservative talk radio? Honestly! You're on the left, I'm on the right....I disagree with you and you disagree with me...welcome to America.

Working with the staff at hand, here's what I think I would do.

I would move Peter Kaliner into the 9-noon slot, move Hancock to PM Drive, Larson into 6-9 PM followed by Servatius.  Kaliner is, in my view, a future talk radio "star".  He's well-prepared, informative, entertaining, treats listeners with respect and is for the most part, non-combative.  A rarity in today's talk show arena!

In conjunction with that move, I would require Larson to do better show prep resulting in less on-air questions to his producer about "what are we doing next?" (seems to me he should know what's next if he's doing proper show prep before hitting the air) and if he's going to spend so much time on the air talking to his producer-the producer should have a "live" mic so listeners can hear both sides of the conversation.

I disagree. I find Kaliner a bore and truly loved *lama* Larson since he came on WBT years ago bumping Dr. Laura. I think the Banter with the producer is intentional and not a lack of show prep. Rush talks with his producer alot as well and he doesn't have a mic either. Larson has also done countless good deeds and fund raising events for the region.

Jim, I'm not knocking Keith's good deeds - credit him for that. But I find very little entertainment value in his constant state of "what are we doing next?/Give so and so a call"/etc. - intentional or otherwise.

As for Rush talking with his producer - unlike Larson, you don't hear Snerdly faintly in the background. If he's responding to Rush, it's privately in Rush's headset. Point is - if Keith's producer is heard, let's hear him clearly instead of some unintelligible muttering in the background. In short, Larson's show has way too much of him talking to himself and his producer for my ears.

Yeah, I know the radio has a tuning dial and an off and on switch. And, after a few minutes of listening, I turn him off.

For me, Hancock's the best and has been for a long time... but I have kinda got used to his 6-9 shift...
As for Tara, probably quite talented I just don't have an appetite for any talk shows that are so politically oriented. Maybe I haven't listened to her enough - but everytime I have had her on it was a constant political banter going on...
I have never been much of a fan of talk radio though except for H.A. Thompson and Hancock, and I enjoyed Larry King on cue on Mutual in the early 80's when I was doing the coveted overnight show...

Hancock is absolutely the best, so good in fact that I even followed him over to "The End" while he was there, even though that would have never been my choice of music in the first place. I was able to tolerate it for a few hours in the morning just to listen to Hancock.

Larson is a very close second, I especially enjoy the "My news and you are welcome to it" segment. I agree that if he is going to talk to Mark or any of the others that they should be on mike, but otherwise I totally enjoy it.

Kaliner is good, and has a future, but he has really not gotten me excited about listening to him.

And as I have said previously, Tara is a great researcher, does excellent show prep, but I still find it hard to listen to her for long. She always has great points that I often agree with but she's just hard to listen to. Just like I used to say about Dr. Laura. I almost always agreed with her point, but she was way too rude and condescending to her listeners and callers. Getting rid of her and bringing Larson in was the best programming move made by BT since hiring Hancock!
