Tasmania questions

First off, I've never been to Australia. I have seen the continent on braille maps, including the small island province of Tasmania off of the coast of Victoria. Looking at the Radio Station World site (which lumps all Tasmanian stations in to one or the other market but lists wattage output for most of them) and the World Radio map site (which features both Hobart and Launceston and stations that can be heard from either), I have a couple of questions.

1) I have been told that it takes an hour to drive from Launceston in the north (which has the airport) to Hobart in the south. If this is the case, why does the World Radio map listing (which may be for entertainment purposes only) show no stations that can be heard in both cities. Is the terrain on the island heavily mountainous, making it difficult for signals, particularly FM signals, to cover both markets.

2) The radio station world site (which again may not be accurate) notes that the ABC outlets in Launceston have a wattage output of 191 kW. Since the island is fairly small and since Hobart has its own cluster of ABC stations, why would you need 191 kW to serve just Launceston. I could understand the high output if the stations were on the mainland and aiming their signals into the Australian outback but on a small island off of the southern coast of Victoria, this sounds somewhat absurd.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

The terrain is quite hilly. FM stations in Hobart transmit from a hill overlooking the city. There is no need for them to try and throw a signal any further north over sparsely populated areas. The FM signals in Launceston are likewise terrain-blocked from reaching more than about halfway across the island. Trying to locate a transmitter midway between the cities would be impractical and leave both cities suffering from terrain-shadowing.

The ABC AM in Hobart is 10kw, 2 tower DA but not sure what kind of coverage it enjoys, locally at least

Another view of the Mt. Wellington tower, along with the coverage it produces:
