Tavis Smiley leaves Tom Joyner Morning Show

The big news on the Tom Joyner morning show is that Tavis Smiley left the show. This over a disagreement about Obama.

What could these two disagree on so strongly about Obama that Tavis would leave the show? Are they trying to outdo each other with their support?

I will say Tavis did call out Obama this week for not participating in last Friday's activities in Memphis for the 40th anniversary of Dr. King's assasination. I just can't imagine that this of all things would be the catalyst for leaving the show.

The first two questions that entered my thoughts upon reading the above:

1) If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
2) Is anybody listening, does anybody care?

Excellent question RockCaptain. Why don't you ask the owners of WWZN?
Or you could ask Opie and Anthony, they air on fewer stations than Tom Joyner.

Again with WWZN?

WWZN is an abysmal failure!

Don't ever use them as an example of anything but how to run an unmitigated disaster!

Second, it doesn't matter how many stations...it matters how much audience there is.

Religious broadcasters like to say they are on 800-900 stations....

Larry King was on 750 stations...overnight!

What makes you think Tom Joyner doesn't have an audience? Why are you mentioning Larry King's overnight cleararnce? Did ever occur to you the show is called the Tom Joyner Morning Show because he broadcasts in the morning?

Do you even know who Tom Joyner is? Do you even know who Tavis Smiley is? Did it ever occur to you that both have TV shows? Tom on TV One and Tavis on PBS.

Maybe the TJMS isn't a big hit in Boston. Who cares. Boston isn't hip to a lot of things popular in the rest of the country. Opie and Anthony have clearance in 2 of the top 10 markets, Tom Joyner has 5 of the top 10. And in most of Tom's markets, he's cleared in top stations. Don't be so arrogant to assume nationwide no one's listening to a show hosted by a black man.

As for WWZN, if it's such a bad example and not to be mentioned, please tell that to the dude who writes the Boston Radio Watch website. Reading that column, you'd think WWZN was Boston's top biller.

Opie and Anthony have clearance in 2 of the top 10 markets, Tom Joyner has 7 of the top 10. And in most of Tom's markets, he's cleared in top stations. Who said that?

To show that number of stations is not a way to compare the sucess of shows.

Of course.

Do you even know who Tom Joyner is?

Yes. The former fly-jock.

I've seen them both...

See above

Is that what this is about?

Who said anything like that? Who mentioned anything about race?

I believe he covers it as a 'facility', not to mention the fact that since it is such a disaster of a radio station, every step they make is somewhat noteworthy and interesting.

I don't think Boston Radio Watch covers it as a sucesfully programmed station...or a well run business.

WWZN has already written of most of their audience, in an effort to simply pay the bills.

WWZN is similar to a function hall. People rent it for their own needs as a facility...that might have a good location and a large ballroom.

You can't compare it to a real restaurant.
