Salem Media has announced that Taylorengineer and Littlejohn will be joining WGKA for a new weekend talk show about radio engineering. The name of the show is “Over the Air.” (The station wanted to use “On Air,” but it seems that name was already taken.)
Mike Moran, general manager of WGKA, commented, “When I thought about all the technology that young people are into these days, a light bulb went off in my head. If they’re interested in iPhones, Flip phones, iPods and mobile broadband, I realized how attracted they’d be to phasors, combiners, directional arrays and all the other things that make up our wonderful business. This is a great opportunity to bring young people into our audience.”
Moran also sees some natural advertiser tie-ins. “We’re planning a special show on ground radials, and I have an appointment with Michelin next week to talk about sponsoring it. We’ll also do a special on tuning houses, and I’m talking to Precision Tune about that opportunity.”
Littlejohn remarked, “The young ones all know about the Love Shack. It’s time they learned about the transmitter shack.”
Taylorengineer added, “The way this country is going, the government will probably try to take over radio. This show will allow our listeners to stand up for what’s right in America.”
