TBS screwup: Tech difficulties, ALCS game 6

Power outage at Turner in Atlanta...Red Sox-Rays game not on...
Sitcom rerun instead

Looceey...you got some 'splainin' to do.

So if the power outage is at the Turner plant, they can't air
the game as scheduled...but they can air a sitcom filler?

If there's a power outage at HQ, shouldn't they be unable to
air anything?

Or are we talking limited generator power that will support a
digital server (I so want to say tape machine ;D) but not be
sufficient for the 1.21 gigawatts needed for a sat downlink
from St. Pete plus live studio and control room?

If you look at the OTHER thread about this issue, it explains, it wasn't a "power failure"...a major power surge caused the main router (NOT SWITCHER) to fail, when it failed, it took out the backup router, in which it caused 4 circuit breakers to blow.

Master Control (Broadcast Operations) never lost power, the only part that lost power was the incoming feed, so that is why they were able to air other programming in the mean time. Turner has generators that can keep the Network Operations (the building the BOC aka Master Control is housed in) building supplied with power for several days.

Also, Turner doesn't use tapes, all programming is stored on servers (but they do have tape backup in the event their two main servers die, and their 3rd backup server fails)

I find it hilarious that people in this thread are hanging onto the notion that this MLB final is that relevant.

So TBS was off the air shortly 'eh?
Had it been long term, this snafu could have potentially cut into the 11-thousandth airing of the Back To The Future Trilogy.

Phillies/Rays will be the lowest rated WS in history.

I am happy that Tampa made it into the World Series. Let's just hope there aren't any problems during the game on FOX this Wednesday. WTVT-TV channel 13 of Tampa is all prepared! :)

Some blogger on "Computer World" this morning, asked why they didn't just have a backup router "offsite".
I, hopefully, explained what a BROADCAST router is, and how they would have to duplicate the entire facility "off site" to use it.

What the hell is a gigawatt?!

One billion watts (you apparently never saw Back to the Future).

YOU apparently never saw Back to the Future because that was Marty's reaction when the Doc in 1955 freaked out when the Doc from 1985, on tape, said what the time machine ran on.
