TBS sticking with CONAN O'Brien

I miss Conan on "Late Night". He was at his best during those years, and his current show pales in comparision. Sadly, I think the Tonight Show fiasco just took it out of him, and I honestly think his show belongs in New York. He has some good bits now, but the show just isn't what it used to be on NBC.

900,000 viewers a night, that just doesn't seem worth it. I love Coco, but I stopped watching the TBS show long ago. But I watched him on Late Night for almost a decade, hardly ever missing a show.

It's not so much a head scratcher. Conan can still bring a younger demo. Whether or not he can demo better than countless reruns of Family Guy is debatable. TBS seems to think having something other than a syndie rerun to be beneficial. They greenlit another season of Cougar Town recently as well. I don't follow Conan on TBS but by the accounts I've been reading he's been getting back to a classic form with more out of studio spots and curveball silly non-sequitur bits.

In the end, Conan is merely there and around while the deck chairs are arranged for a possible Fallon coup upon Leno to combat Kimmel.

It's all very silly to me since I'll will not watch any of the "big chess pieces" and wait it out for CraigyFerg at 12:35.
I want Criag to break out the puppets some more!

Since Conan does four shows a week, I am a little puzzled as to why the show is aired Monday-through-Thursday and not Tuesday-through Friday.

While fewer viewers watch prime-time TV on Friday and Saturday nights than any other nights of the week, I was always under the impression that more people watched late-night TV on Friday and Saturday nights than on any other nights of the week since by 11 P.M. ET/PT, people often come home from whatever they were doing earlier in the evening, and (for the most part) didn't have to go to work or school the next day.

If TBS were to broadcast "Conan" at 10:30 p.m. (Central time) every Monday through Thursday before many local TV stations finish their local newscasts, more folks would have the chance to see and/or hear the program.

A long time ago, NBC used to say about re-runs: If you missed it the first time, it's new to you.

That's the situation with Friday night repeats of Letterman, Kimmel, and Conan. A lot of people are asleep at 11:30 weekdays. So they miss the show in real time. That's why a repeats a few days later is a good idea. The jokes are still pretty timely. The movies and products the guests promote are still timely. And you get to watch the hand-picked best show of the week, instead of just another show.

I think what we're noticing with Conan on TBS is the combination of a few things: The budget for this show is smaller than at NBC. The leverage TBS has in getting top stars is lower than NBC. Conan realizes he's playing in a smaller tent, and it's affecting his performance.

Conan doesnt air reruns on Fridays, usually a movie is played during his slot. Letterman will pretape Friday's show early in the week, except in the summer when it is usually a repeat, but not from that same week. Not sure what Kimmel does.

As long as he makes money (is he?), it doesn't matter.

This is what's wrong with the TV/Movie/Record industry. Too much emphasis on "star" and "Wow" productions.
