TBS Super Station Off?

Hello, I was wondering why am I not getting the Cubs on TBS Super Station on Comcast cable in Chicago? I know they are on WGN also, but why would TBS just be a blank screen to us? Why not cover it up with something else then dead air?
The station is completely broadcasting nothing right now, has been for about 45 minutes.

The CUBS/BRAVES game is still on WTBS but since WGN TV has the rights to the Cubs broadcast all the cable and satelite companies have to black out the WTBS feed in the Chicago market.

Yep. TBS' feed is always blacked out within a hundred or so miles of the Braves' opponents' home city, to avoid siphoning viewers from local coverage. I think the same rule applies to WGN Superstation's broadcasts of the Cubs and Sox.

What is stupid, however, is that much of Chicagoland is also blacked out when the Braves play the BREWERS on TBS, thanks to being within x miles of Milwaukee. This in spite of the fact that no local coverage of Brewers games exists in Illinois, except in some very small towns along the Wisconsin border whose cable headends are in Wisconsin and carry Fox Sports North.

I remember one time when flipping channels on then TCI cable, they blacked out ESPN when WGN was airing a Bulls game. But I remember one time on DirecTV, I forgot if it was hockey or football, but DirecTV didn't blockout the Chicago viewers from viewing one of the sports games that WFLD was airing.

They blacked out WGN in Kenosha during that game. We get WGN-TV on cable here.
______________

That's odd ... I would think that's pretty strong Cubs territory (yes I know it's in Wisconsin) as well as Brewers.
Here in Ohio, the cable system in the city where I work has blacked out TBS during Reds games, but not my home cable system. Never have my beloved Cubs been blacked out on Channel 9 here when playing the Reds or Indians, so I don't know that there's any rhyme or reason.

Same thing happens here in Southington, Connecticut. When the Mets are playing the Braves and the game is on TBS, WPIX WB 11 in NYC, and WTXX WB20 in Hartford (same feed as WPIX) COX Blanks out TBS, but you can still hear the games en Espanol on TBS by switching to SAP. BTW COX rarely blacks anything out. We have both WB20 and WB11 and nothings on WB11 is blacked out, even though WB11 carries almost the samething as FOX 61/WB20 from Hartford. (All 3 are owned by Tribune). And until last week we also got WNBC from NYC in addition to the local NBC station from Hartford WVIT. Nothing on WNBC was blacked out. If ESPN is blacked out however, ESPNEWS Replaces it. I dont know if this is a COX thing or an ESPN thing.
______________

That would be COX Communications putting the other feed over TBS Superstation during those blackouts. Comcast here in New Britain, CT (borders Southington, CT to the immediate northeast) just leaves the channel blank on cable channel 16 when they're playing the Mets (or Red Sox if it's interleague).

Was it WFLD-TV carrying a FOX Saturday baseball game?

Likely an ESPN thing -- in the Tampa Bay area, when a local sporting event is blacked out, the ESPNEWS feed is used to replace the signal on Bright House.

Prior to ESPNEWS's arrival, ESPN had a second feed used for alternate programming if a blackout is necessary in a particular region.
Edited by rugrats1 on 07/09/05 09:11 PM.

If a TBS feed of a Cubs/Atlanta Braves game had to be blacked-out in the Chicago area, couldn't the broadcast of either WGN-9 or Comcast Sportsnet-Chicago have been substituted??

Yes, the local Chicago coverage would have been seen on two channels, but it might have made more sense than a blank screen.
