I usually don't pay much attention to TBS because it always seems that it shows movies and Seinfield reruns but with all the clamour over TBS lately, I decided to check out if there was any original shows that were bringing so many people to TBS. But all I saw was Lopez Tonight, House of Payne, Family Guy, The Office, Seinfield and movies! Almost all the programming is syndicated! I know sister network TNT creates original dramas for its network, so why isn't TBS jumping on creating an original lineup of shows instead of just showing syndicated shows, movies, Conan and Lopez? Of course, one could say money is an issue, but after signing contracts to carry MLB baseball, NCAA basketball and NBA basketball on TNT, money would seem like the least of TBS's problems.

They do original shows on TBS. House of Payne, Are we There Yet (starting next month), My Boys, Meet the Browns and Neighbors from Hell (also starting next month). They also had several seasons of Bill Engvall.

Strange how Comcast in New Britain, CT (near Hartford) just gutted much of the remaining expanded basic lineup for those of us with QAM tuners on our HDTV sets. Besides the locals in HD, some of their sub-channels and the so-called P.E.G. channels, who else still gets through unencrypted...and in HD? QVC and TBS. Freaky!

I disagree. I think it's wrong of them to go to a commercial break during say Family Guy then come back with a basketball game from TNT because the other game on TNT ran long.

And the basketball fans want to see whichever game interests them more, so you have a "rock and a hard place" scenario. In the end, the 9,432nd repeat of the same Family Guy show loses out to the rare instance of a basketball overrun. Things happen.

I just don't like basketball. I'm a hostage viewer at Illusions Dance Club. It's often on at the bar and in the DJ Booth.

"Hostage viewer," of course, meaning one has no control of the channels on the television monitors, e.g. On Saturday mornings at the local fitness center, I may be a hostage viewer of "VeggieTales" or whatever Qubo programming (via NBC) is on at the moment.

TBS is getting the same way many other cable networks have become, repeating not only shows, but the same movies over and over and over!, no wonder people are pulling the plug on cable service.

Keep in mind that in this 200+ channel world, there's still only so much original programming to go around. Most basic and premium cable channels repeat their programs to fill the 24 hour schedule.

I'm a big NPR (radio) fan, but they probably only produce about 6 to 8 hours of programming a day. The rest is repeats.

It's hard for me to understand why this bothers people. If you watch multiple channels, there is more than enough programming to fill 4 to 6 hours of TV viewing a day. I'm having a hard time keeping up.

Some of those "original" shows are being picked up from syndication through Debmar-Mercury though. House of Payne, Are We There Yet? and Meet the Browns are all bring picked up from Debmar. Compare the number of original shows on TBS to the number of original shows on Comedy Central or USA. TBS carries way more syndicated shows and movies than the other networks. If TBS landed some more original shows, wouldn't they tend to do better? I'm sure a lot of shows that are pitched to HBO and Showtime don't make the cut...

No doubt because subscribers are paying lots of extra money to subscribe to those channels, and they don't wish to watch any programming considered to be second rate.

Although I think a lot of what's on TBS is crap - The Stupid Tyler Perry Shows, My Boys, 10 Items or Less, Fresh Prince, Married with Children, Lopez Tonite, and most of their movies - they are a good channel because they don't show infomercials.

What I do like on TBS:

I believe 60-70% of Comedy Central's original programming debuts on Wednesdays at 10:30 PM after "South Park" and then eventually disappears... (Ironically, "South Park" broadcast TV reruns are syndicated by Debmar, as well.)
