Seasons Greetings everyone ....

Are there any TC Finalizer experts on here? We're running it as an on-air mic processor but it sounds very flat - even though the compressor settings are cranked up. I need a ballsy, beefy, hot sound from it.

Is there anything obvious I'm missing ... any tips?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Well, the most obvious is that this is a mastering limiter and not really suited to what you're trying to do. Try not cranking it up so much - don't smash the signal, because your processing will then just turn it to mush. The processing needs some peaks, some breathing space, to be most effective.

If all else fails, stick with the old school stuff, e. g. Symetrix 528, etc.
 
I've used the Finalizer, but for final mixes. Never as a mic processor.

For mixdowns I left everything at 12 oclock. I let the processing on the VO tracks ands the rest of the mix do their thing.

If you're looking for a mic pre to "balls" it up get a dbx or an old Valley 400 off eBay. Then, run that to a LA-2, LA-3, or LA-4. That should do it.

Are you using a dynamic or condenser mic? Tighter low end can be had with a Sennheiser MD421 or Shure SM7B dynamics. And they can handle the carelessness of jocks. The Shure SM7B is really good. I just bought one on Amazon for $320 plus shipping.
