Palm Springs Team 1010 is now 102.7 The Fanatic

KXPS "Team 1010" is now "102.7 The Fanatic" several hours ahead of schedule. The website has been updated as well as on air. Radio Insight first reported the coming change last week. Intriguingly, an on-air promotional skit has been telling listeners to switch over to FM because 1010 AM is going away on June 1st, whether that is a license turn in or a sale or a format change, it is unclear. Also, unclear how that would affect co-owned and co-located KPSF 1200.

I heard the new legal id and I believe the new originating station is an HD subchannel of KJJZ Indian Wells.

1010 most likely either gets sold, or the license gets turned in. This really illustrates how bad AM coverage is in the Coachella Valley due to the poor ground conductivity there. The 102.7 translator has better coverage of the valley than the directional 3.6 KW-D, 400 watt-N KXPS. Plus, it's cheaper to lease an HD channel from another operator, compared to the cost of operating KXPS as the originating station for 102.7.

The primary station is KJJZ HD-3.

@DavidEduardo or anyone else actually in Palm Springs, can anyone clarify what's on 1010 now if anything? Also I was told that the co-owned but LMA'd "Studio 100.9" 1200 KPSF has ceased operations.

I was thinking that too when the stream was down on KPSF Tuesday evening, but the stream was back as of yesterday morning. Obviously that doesn't mean the OTA signal is still on.

There was a post on the now deleted Studio 100.9 Facebook page confirming they are gone from 1200/100.9. I'm seeking info on what if anything is on these signals.

Both KPSF (1200) and KXPS(1010) have filed notification that they have resumed operations with the FCC.

Anyone got any ears on what they are programming?

Both of these pieces of junk, 1010 and 1200 shouldve never been built. Expensive albratrosses that were crammed in because you could, not because you should.

Maybe, but neither of them are that new. And there was a time in recent decades where AM was more viable than it is now.

Palm Springs is a terrible AM market anyway. And the translators associated with those AMs are no longer tied to them.

multi tower, crap signals, junk for ground conductivity.... they arent that old either.

they shouldnt have been built

if someone gave one of them to me for free and free tower rent for life, i still wouldnt take it

Well. That was quick. But filled silent STAs again

“KXPS is requesting silent authority as its transmitter and a/c operates “off the grid” using a generator. It recently restored licensed operations using the generator but discovered on Friday May 5th, 2023 that the diesel fuel it has purchased was contaminated and resulted in the failure of the generator. Repairs and system flushing to the generator fuel tank are expected to take several weeks and until such time as it can be made operational, the station must be silent.”
