Tech, 790 part ways

I realize you can't PBP everyone, but...

1) I kind of wonder why 92.9 picked up the Hawks when their last flagship was an FM translator and they were hoping to go big. Hawks will create conflicts galore with just about any other sport. Tech + Falcons would work well with few conflicts on Sundays. You could even conceivably add the Braves without too many conflicts unless the Braves go deep in the playoffs.
2) Would Tech/ACC basketball be a bigger draw than the Hawks?
3) CBS could use WAOK for an AM simul or PBP conflict reliever for the Hawks. Their AM night signal is good on the southside.
4) Why would the Braves go to Kicks? As a country station (and the older one to boot), and since Rock100.5 has trended younger/newer, is this to better exploit the listenership gap of an adult-format station?
5) Does anyone really NEED an AM side? Unless you're WSB, nobody offers a metrowide night signal that's worth a damn.

jabba17, good point on CBS Radio Atlanta simulcasting the Hawks on WAOK on the AM. They could even go the extra mile and trimulcast the Hawks on V-103. Why would the Braves go to KICKS? 1) The colors of the logos for the KICKS logo and the Braves logo are the same (red & blue). 2) The Braves work out on other country stations such as WLJA & WCON. If the Braves can work out on WLJA & WCON, they can most certainly work out on KICKS.

Tech isn't going to 680,because they now have UGA Football as well, the Braves would be good on Kicks because of the bigger signal, but i think they will eventually pick up Nascar, witch they should have done five years ago when Eagle went away,Q would be good for GT.

WSB (and WSBB and WXKT and WNGC) have UGA football PBP, pregame, and postgame. WCNN has some of the coach's shows and some kind of paid affiliation.

Now 680 The Fan's ties to the Georgia Bulldogs are through a sports talk partnership. I heard during the college sports season last year at the beginning of the sports segments on All News 106.7 that it was mentioned that 680 The Fan is a sports talk partner of the Georgia Bulldogs. I guess that means they only air a game if the sports radio network (CBS Sports Radio) is covering it.
As for NASCAR, it's been making a slow comeback in Atlanta. With WGST's return to News/Talk radio under the "TalkRadio" name, the show "Southern Race Week" has been reborn. WGST is the flagship for the show. The show also airs on other GNN affiliates in the state. Of course, WGST is now considered Atlanta's AM home for NASCAR due to their affiliation with MRN. Now as of FM, the closest FM station is 92.5 The Bear WEKS-FM in Griffin on the southside not far from AMS (Atlanta Motor Speedway) in Hampton. If more people would just go to the races in person, radio stations like 94.9 THE BULL & South 107 would pick NASCAR back up. But those who aren't going to the races in person, it's because they can't afford to go. Anyway, that is all.

Pre FOX Nascar fans (I once was one) remind me of the "Deadheads" that followed the Grateful Dead. I actually had a subscription to TV guide to find out which network had the race. I went to both races at Martinsville VA. If I was traveling on Sunday afternoon I would listen to the race if I lost the signal, I hit the scan button and switched the band if necessary to get my racing fix. I have recovered.

IMHO with the Fox / ESPN ABC TV deal: Nascar radio is not relevant. But so is a lot of sports programming the question is can I be sold.

Yes, enough to bill somewhere between $400,000 and $600,000* a month, about the same number of 6+ listeners as 92.9

* sports talkers bill an amazing amount of money when looking at the 6+ arbitron

Southern Race week moved to the Bull after WGST went away last year,if the Braves went to Kicks,Tug would be happy, and if they did get Nascar that would be great for Dallas.
