Re: TECH RADIO AM 1060 KDUS TEMPE/PHOENIX (THE FIRST TECH TALK FORMAT IN AMERICA

Didn't CNet try a techy talk type format in San Fran on an AM? I can't remember.

Sure did. Can't remember if it was on 910 or 960, probably 960.

Yes they did. They even simulcasted it on satellite radio for a while.

Also, how can you have an all tech talk station and not carry Leo Laporte?

What ever happened to Leo? His satellite TV show was actually worth watching.

I believe Leo is on KFI on Sundays...

Yes, what is now 910 KNEW used to be CNET radio, but the ratings were horrible. One could assume if the format was worth a damn it would have succeeded in the silicon valley area, but its not.

I have to wonder who the audience is?

If it's tech heads, they're undoubtedly getting this information off the internet and through social networking anyway. If it's beginners and intermediates, is that a sizable enough audience to make the format viable? As they learn more would they, in time, out grow the content? Are they finding this information on the internet as well?

In any case, I would think that a station that runs this format would also have to have a strong web presence with compelling content.

After all, reaching out to an audience of tech-savvy people with an ancient technology like AM seems a little incongruous.
