TECH SURVEY III: HD RADIO FINDINGS

I wonder sometimes do you even read the material you link to. Number one, this is a POSITIVE report, not a negative one. That 33 percent are "somewhat likely" to purchase HD radios in the 150-200 dollar price-point, at a time when the entry level is approaching SIXTY dollars is fantastic. I'm sure that people have "heard about" HD radio. I'm equally sure they largely dont know what it is, or believe they have it already (as with AM stereo...with phrase "am/fm stereo" was used in advertising so much that people THOUGHT it included AM in the stereo part).

Again, you tell us again and again that people have heard of HD Radio, but rejected it. Then you post a link to a post which contradicts your own point "While there are some positive aspects to this data, especially where it concerns overall awareness and a better grasp of the technology, confusion about HD Radio remains. An overall lack of knowledge continues to be a major barrier in taking the plunge and purchasing an HD Radio.

A key issue involves exposure to HD Radio. Many people either haven’t heard it or don’t know anyone who owns one..."

I'd included in that most of the people here who draw a negative conclusion about EVERYTHING anyone says about HD...that they usually have no damn practical experience with the technology. I think many here actually believe that HD "doesn't work". Pretty silly...like AGAIN posting a link to something POSITIVE, and putting a negative spin on it.

I just posted a link, without providing comments. From the graph "Desirable Features - Next Car", an overwhelming number of consumers want analog AM/FM with CD player, followed by analog AM/FM radios with iPod jacks - only 10% are very interested in HD Radio. Interest in in-dash Satellite Radio is still ahead of HD Radio. Since HD Radio does not work with table-top models, it sure isn't going to work on-the-move with in-dash models.

Because people answer "radio", the same way they answer "television"...they don't specify "I want 1080i HDTV, or at least 720p, with Dolby Digital 5.1". Instead they say "Is NCIS ON?" Get real!

So when a consumer shops for a computer he/she doesn't ask for:

Fastest computer w/latest Pentium Chip, w/ 1g memory, 160 gb harddrive, DVD RW/CD RW, and all the bells and whistles or does he/she just go into Best Buy or whatever and just ask for a 'computer'?

Get real Mike!

The general public isn't that dumb anymore.

Computer geeks ask for those things. My mother (and most people) ask for "one that will let me do e-mail, and the kids play music and stuff". Geeks drive tech, not average people. Most people are illiterate as to what terms like "dual channel ram", "64 bit processing", "Lightscribe", "overclocking", "Dual-Core", "multi-threading", etc. mean. They shop for computers the way they shop for any other "appliance"...by telling what they want it to do.

"HD or not HD"

"But there's a dark side. Only 1% of our Rock Radio sample owns an HD Radio, and there doesn't appear to be great desire to buy one among the rest of our respondents. What's the problem? There is still considerable confusion about HD Radio, and most people simply haven't heard it nor do they know anyone who owns one."

Yup, the Big HD Radio Rollout is going just fine ! :D

[walks on soapbox - if you don't feel like reading an angry post, skip it now.]

Yet ANOTHER useless posting by the ever famous PocketRadio. If we wanted to see useless crap, I'd look in the toilet after taking a sh*t.

The only reason you don't think HD radio is a success is because of your stupid-ass Google Trends. GOOGLE TRENDS does NOT INDICATE THE POPULARITY OF A PRODUCT, JUST HOW MANY SEARCHES ARE PERFORMED.

We don't need you posting useless articles. I highly doubt any posters on this board are so dumb that they can't look up their own articles.

Maybe you should start your own board: mindlessramblingsonhowhdradiosucks.com. I'm sure you'd get a lot of hits (damn, this board really can't convey sarcasm well, can it?).

Also: I own an HD Radio, the Accurian from Radio Shack that I bought for a hundred bucks around Christmas time. It's one of the best radios I've purchased in years. The reception's great, I CAN GET HD SIGNALS(I'm 40 miles from the towers), and the sound quality is awesome compared to your typical table radio.

WOW - the end must be near ! I am getting more and more hostility from every post/comment I make:

From Nelson:

http://jacobsmedia.typepad.com/jacobs/2007/05/hd_or_not_hd.html

From Glenn:

http://zane.typepad.com/ccuceo/2007/05/listening_to_yo.html

Now, that you mention "mindlessramblingsonhowhdradiosucks.com", take a look at all the sites that get hits:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ned=us&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=radio+sucks&sa=N&tab=nw

Maybe, this is part of the problem, why HD radios are not selling.

As far as, Google Trends:

http://www.google.com/trends?q="hd+radio",+"internet+radio",+xm,+sirius,+podcast

Consumers are not searching for "HD Radio".

It is time once again to make my appeal.

Please, please, please... stop talking to or recognizing this guy.

He thrives on your arguments and on your anger with him.

If you ignore him entirely, he will have no more audience. And when he loses his audience, he will eventually go away.

The next time you are motivated to take this guy's bait, please consider the above seriously before doing so.

I agree with Cal. PocketRadio, 700WLW, Pilotradio, let's IGNORE THEM (actually the first two are obviously the same person). It's going to be hard for me, but I'm going to try my best. Let's ALL try starting now. And let's not even open their topics. Let them see that after three or four days, the number of views is ZERO. That's the only way to "win" a board where we can discuss this new technology without being harrassed.
