Technical Difficulties At WBAP ?

Several times today (on 3 or 4 different radios) I've heard WBAP 820 go silent for 3 to 4 seconds. Are they having technical difficulties ? The last time it happened was a few minutes ago. The first time I heard it was during Hal Jay.

Same thing happening on FM...

They need to equalize/process the FM sound differently. It is annoying and unlistenable. Way too much high freq and sibilance. Need to approximate KERA for talk on FM.

Yeah I tried WBAP FM & didn't like it. They need some EQ or pre-emphasis tweaks.

Guess I'm just used to talk on AM but the thin sound & sibilance is annoying on their FM.

They need to dump WBAP-FM and keep WBAP-AM

At least WBAP FM can be heard for more than a mile, which is more than can be said for the endless translators for other stations. Useless for drive time unless you have a very short drive.

That said, WBAP FM got a bad start & many listeners won't bother checking again to see if it's ever fixed. I'm fine with their AM - the signal is far superior than the FM rimshot.

Now if it were a full-powered Cedar Hill stick with proper EQ - different story.

Funny - all the numbers I see for the simulcast show the FM actually helping WBAP in the key demos of women and 25-54. Am I not reading something right???

You are reading the numbers right. Some people just don't like to let facts get in the way of their opinions.

A few weeks ago WBAP-AM's transmitter actually went off the air for a few seconds.
I've been hearing it do that randomly when they had "HD" IBOC running and since. I thought at the time that had something to do with it. But they haven't run IBOC in a year or so and I still hear the carrier occasionally drop out for a second or two. I do not remember ever hearing it drop out like that before when they were running the excellent sounding C-QUAM stereo.

This sounds like what I was hearing when I started this thread.
