Technical Error At KOOL 101 Today?

So this morning, as usual, I was listening to KOOL 101. However, in the 9 AM hour, something major was missing: the disc jockey. At the top of the hour, where the DJ, Dave Wright, was supposed to give the legal ID, I only heard the music bed, followed by the jingle, then the next song. Also, when going to commercial breaks, there is usually a point where Dave talks for a minute, usually going over the last songs played, and maybe promoting an upcoming event. I did `not hear this, either. Went straight to commercials. The weather breaks, though, were far worse. Heard the opening jingle, then rather than allow Dave to give the details, went straight to the closing liner and on to the next song - over the start of which, the weather report music bed that followed the opening liner was still playing. I even heard a couple of "hard segs" during the hour (i.e. two songs played back-to-back with no station ID or liners). Which isn't necessarily unusual on KOOL 101, because the only time I will hear a hard seg will be after 2 PM, when Dan O'Brien eventually makes his way into the studio to take over for Dave Wright.

I realize Dave might prerecord his parts, so I am curious as to what happened here. Does anyone have any idea what went on this morning over at KOOL 101?

I find it odd that it only happened for one hour before going back to normal at 10 AM. Maybe an engineer found out about it and fixed it, or perhaps morning host Jim Reed caught it and took care of it (once in awhile, he'll jump in during Dave's shift with a severe traffic update).

Never listened to Kool 101? Click here. ;D

Actually I created the whole problem (and more) when I accidentally deleted Dave's stuff. I caught it early-on but made everybody's stuff disappear when I was on the phone trying to talk someone through restoring the tracked portion of the day. Most everyone had to re-do their stuff. But do I leave everything alone when I return last night ? No.. I have to go in and tinker.... Meantime Ron Carson (our overnight tracker) is completing his work. Ron doesn't "mail it in"..(he does LOTS of prep). Suddenly, he's running into difficulties. I assure him I can fix it but somehow manage to make all of his work disappear at around 12 minutes before airtime at midnight. So there he is....sitting there in the studio amongst piles and piles of stuff looking as if I told him his dog died. Trooper that he is, he recreated everything with the same energy and enthusiasm as the first go-round. As for me, I'm not touching anything around here today !

Everyone here will probably have a better day because if it...

Just another KOOL day in the radio biz....

Jim

Jim, I'm sure your own forthright attitude about it made the prospect of a do-over a lot easier to take. I've had work zapped countless times, and did it myself to someone's canned requests a year ago in my eagerness to update old files. When it's an honest mistake or glitch, most people understand... I hope! Now let's all have a laugh and a beer!

Jim - don't stress over it... things happen... I do appreciate the explanation. Rock on!
