Technical problem re: taping radio from TV

I know this is prob in the wrong forum. but I need assistance. I am recieving audio from the radio on my tv, but when I record, no sound. All the hookups are the same except it's a new HI-FI Stereo VCR. I have the jacks plugged into the vcr audio input correctly as wel las the back of my stereo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you have to do is have the output of the radio with RCA jacks, going into the stereo INPUTS of the VCR, then change the VCR to, for example, VIDEO 1 or somthing (wherever the inputs are)., then put the tape in then record. Should have a decent recording.

If you hear it coming to the TV but it's not there when you record, it definitely is not hooked up correctly.

Run the L&R output from your receiver to the corresponding inputs on the VCR. Then hook the VCR to the TV however you want.

Alternatively, if your TV has L&R outputs, you can run the L&R outputs from the receiver to the corresponding inputs of your TV and then the L&R outputs from the TV can go to the corresponding inputs of your VCR. (I would suggest the first method because this one requires some fumbling with buttons.)

Something is wrong someplace...I tried everything and to no avail. I've tried all the possible hookups. I do appreciate the replies, any other suggestions perhaps?

Try giving the VCR a video source too. Some VCRs won't record without video. If you have a DVD player, turn it on and plug it in to the video input on the VCR. Just leave the DVD player on its "welcome" screen, start recording the audio from your radio and everything should work.

This is getting very frustrating...I can't seem to catch a break on this. I wonder if this is supposed to be so damn complicated.

Could it be possible it is the cable wire I'm using from the cable box to the VCR? Before I used those ones that just plug in to the jack, now I'm using the wire that screws in.

With some VCRs, if you want it to record in audio-only mode, you have to physically disconnect all video inputs. And as other people have said, you have to tell it to record from the Line Input. On my Toshiba VCR, this is done by tuning it one channel below channel 2, which shows up as channel "L" (L for Line Input).

Joey,
What the previous poster posted about a video source being needed is true. At a few of my old stations we used a VCR for a logger w/ 8 hour tapes. What you need to do, if you don't want or have a video signal to input, is purchase a white noise generator. That will plug into the Video-IN rca jack and basically make the VCR think it has a video signal. You should be able to get one from BSW or from a video supply vendor.

I'm seriously at my wits end. I'm ready to throw it all out the window and screw this hobby. Nothing is working, and I had the hokups exactly how it was on my old set up. This is beat.:-(

I think at this point, a $30 DVD player is a better buy than a white noise generator, unless you REALLY like white noise. ;)
