Technology in new cars, prompts radio inquiry:

Okay, I have an interesting quest?ion:

-i have noticed newer cars, have better reception...
since this is a buffalo/"area" board, i thought i would
pose this topic here.

i am easily able to pick up z103.5, CIDC in a
new ford mercury..... i have noticed, it this
ride only; as my stereo will have the edge, 103.3 interfer;
also, have tried ALL HOURS and it is CONSISTENT !!
( and deep into the suburbs, not just the fringe of lewiston,
but amherst, and tonawanda).

is it this attenta, the processing to be able to have better
means of (in this case) 103.5 be able to have its OWN
spot on the dial, what is it ? there is DEFINATELY
an improvement, so much to the point * it is almost
AS IF, the station, it self, increased the power output.

The car makers have apparently been making a sincere effort to improve the sensitivity, selectivity and audio quality of their in-car factory installed stereos in recent years. They probably got tired of the complaints they were getting from car buyers, and may have gotten even more tired of significant numbers of people having their car radio offerings deleted at the time of purchase and replaced quickly by higher quality aftermarket systems for which they didn't get a dime.

The sophistication and quality of today's factory stereos is so far and away above what you got from the major carmakers 15 years ago, that a lot of the reason for aftermarket swaps is now gone. And that's good news for the carmakers, because in-car audio is a major profit center for every vehicle sold.

bob1370:

i think, it was 1370, thank you for the reply.
was the technology available 15 years ago, and
the car makers, decided to "hold off" for as long
as they could ?

yea, it is incredible...the sound quality is decent enough
for it to stop on the 'scan' Now that does happen
from time to time, here in niagara county, however
for it to be that strong enough for me to listen,
i am happy!

i will say this: the "average" listener, who can
tune to z101,kiss 985, probably would NOT
tolerate the static, for the same songs
on a CD, or a buffalo chr, but as i said,
i am happy!!

now , this ties into the buffalo board,
there is a potential, for [2] zee's on
the "buffalo" dial.

sure every one reading this, KNOWs CIDC,
z103, ( used to be dc,103....whatever)
an average listener, will hear z103 ( since
i am not the only w/ a new car) and....
well at best be wondering, why wild101
changed to z101, and moved up the dial to 103.5
