Ted Atkins

Say it ain't so!!

Claude Hall at his website says the beloved Capt. Showbiz has pancreatic cancer! Can anyone confirm?
He took WTAE to greatness in the 1970's. Everyone remembers the disc jockeys and how good they were, but Ted was the one orchestrating it all.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Atkins and his family.

As a former employee of Cap'n Showbiz, I offer - and solicit - prayers for Ted. He's one of those great, colorful personalities which have made our industry so endlessly fascinating. Apart from his foibles and failings, of the sort which afflict us all, Ted is a genuine and good-hearted guy and a helluva radio broadcaster.

May the force be with you, Cap'n. Get better.

Well said!
I'm a little surprised that more people haven't spoken up about Mr. Atkins. Maybe the posters here are too young to know what an important figure he has been in the history of radio. The man is a legend. He deserves all our good thoughts and prayers.

Let me ask a completely different question here. Does anybody know if there is an increased chance of pancreatic cancer if someone has diabetes? I'm not saying Ted is diabetic, I don't know. I've always wondered about this.

Increase chances of anything when you have diabetes. I've received an email from Ted, and he's doing ok.

New info in today's TRI says that Ted's recovering from "major surgery" at Pittsburgh's Montefiore Hospital. Anyone have more news?

Be well, Captain Showbiz!
