Ted Hall To Replace Jill Becker on the 11Alive Morning Newscast

Well that wasn't too much of a surprise since Ted has been filling in during mornings. Well at least we don't lose him all together. As much as I support WXIA, I am less than pleased to see the station management bring in someone 48 markets below Atlanta's to replace Paul. Chris Holcomb paid his dues for 20 years working very hard and he should have been picked to head up the weather department.

And it looks like 11Alive isn't done with tinkering with their format. Lots of changes are coming:

1) Melissa Long (from Headline News and most recently Bloomberg) will co-anchor the 10pm with Jeff Hullinger on WATL. They will both contribute to the 11:00.

2) Brenda Wood will solo-anchor the 11:00, which will be a reporter-driven newscast.

3) New (yet-to-be-named) journalist joining Brenda at the anchor desk for the 6:00.

Is your head spinning yet?

Sounds like they are copying WSB, having a different anchor team for each newscast so each broadcast has different look and feel. I'm not sure that will help achieve brand loyalty having so many different faces on the air.

Looks like they are trying to shake things up a bit. I guess they got all they're gonna get
out of NEWS FOR YOU, NEWS THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY or whatever it was. This shot in
the arm is an attempt for higher ratings.

Not everything is turning out like i expected but it is interesting that Gannett is actually bringing in some talent to grow its news organization. To have a separate anchor team for the 10pm news seems to be extra money i never expected them to spend. I really expected Jeff to stick with Brenda but i see that was wrong. I dont understand why they are having Brenda solo anchor 4 nights a week at 11pm. Does Jeff and Melissa become the back up anchors. Of course Brenda is the solo 7pm anchor 5 days most of the year except when its dark at that time. So why bring in a new co-anchor when Jeff is already on the payroll at 6pm. Does 11 expand the 10pm news to an hour or add news to 5pm hour again. I guess time will answer my questions
