Ted Norman passes away

WBAP, KSCS, KXTX and much more. Decorated war hero (World War II), and one of the finest men I ever met. He was in his 80's - and though cancer had cost him much of his face, he smiled until the end.

I dug a little deeper for some more info on Ted Norman: He was PD at WBAP in 1970 when he noticed the intense popularity of country music coming down the pike (having Bill Mack on overnights doing country probably helped that conclusion, as the rest of WBAP's dayparts were easy listening then) and flipped WBAP over to Country Gold. He did the same for sister station WBAP-FM, changing the calls to "KSCS" (S]ilver C]ounty S]tereo) in January, 1973 (Billboard Mag said that KSCS was being programmed with "country ballads and instrumental versions of country tunes.")

Norman also worked for KFJZ-AM during his career. He was a 1939 Paschal HS graduate, which should have made him about 88-89 yrs old this year.

Ted's decision's on programming forever changed the country music radio landscape in Dallas/Ft.Worth. Before, there was KBOX, KPCN, & KYAL. All went away over time. He was a visionary......and a good man.
