Teena Marie passes

According to sources, she died in her sleep. R.I.P.

No station is doing a Teena Marie tribute now. Or will it be tomorrow.

I just got word of it from CNN and I was totally shocked that she passed away so soon. She was one of the classiest women in R&B. She will be greatly missed but her music will live on in memory.

So sad, but I believe she is a better place. The twisted irony was 4 years ago on 26th, James Brown had passed in his sleep as well. I don't know what it is about the 25th and 26th of December, but quite a number of entertainers pass on these 2 dates.

I've seen some UACs spin more Teena Marie songs in the past 7 hours. A few urban contemporaries like WBLK, WDKX, and WVEE have spun her songs as well during their slow jams shows last night. Nothing from most mainstream urban stations since most of her major hits music was before the target demographic was of age or could remember.

I think Salem was talking about here in the DFW. I think KRNB and KSOC were both jockless last night due to the holidays when this news broke. Just goes to show you, a computer can't do everything...

Nope, it cannot. A number of stations went jockless and commercial-free on Christmas Eve & Day, but was back with live jocks on-air on Sunday. I've yet to understand the purpose of being jockless large portions of the weekend on UACs when specialty programming could be aired.

Very sad news, especially to pass away at such a young age. I enjoyed her music. She had a great voice. She was just in my town performing a concert a few months ago.

Very sad, indeed. She was suppose to perform in Atlanta alongside Maze featuring Frankie Beverly on New Years Day at the Fox Theatre.
