TEGNA/WFAA buying KMPX

TEGNA and WFAA will purchase Estrella Media's KMPX for $19 million. The WFAA main programming will be simulcast on KMPX in order to overcome reception issues with WFAA's VHF digital signal. Another KMPX subchannel will continue with the Estrella TV network.

The purchase agreement includes an option for Estrella Media to eventually purchase the current WFAA transmitter and license, so this could essentially turn into a VHF for UHF swap.

TEGNA's KHOU in Houston did something similar by purchasing KTBU and adding its main programming to the UHF station to augment the signal challenged VHF. The VHF maps as 11.1, the UHF 11.11.

Wonder if other Estrella Media TV O&O's might be in play. The investors that now own the company post-bankruptcy are wanting their money back.
