Tejas Broadcasting

Looks like they let go their GM Juan Montenegro. I believe it is the third time he has been hired and let go by Chuck Brooks. Reminds me of Billy Martin and George Stienbrenner without the success......Of course Juan was clueless as is Chuck for hiring him. A decent group of radio stations that have gone down hill since 2009...

I think there has been too much damage done to the stations. It would take investment and a strong leader to get it back into shape. Also you would have to get rid of Chucks buddy Javier who programs the Spanish station. Rumors have always surrounded Javier....pertaining to the music he plays.....So let see how the also-rans do now that most of the good people they had are gone.

Tejas is Spanish for CBrooks is clueless.

here is how bad it can get. the financials for tejas for last sevrl years. we can play /match gm with year for fun

this explains why Kent Cooper was fired, he was the GM for Tejas when profits droped almost $ 500,000 from 08 to 09. If these numbers are true!!!

u arent seeing colums right. i tried to line them up but post messed up. kent had 2 profitable years o7 made $145,000 and 08 made $414,000 chuck ran all of amarillo (losses) and corpus 05 and 06 (losses) new guy juan(?) lost $76,000 his first 3 months of 10 looks like kent took group from $223,000 loss to just $23,000 loss by entering building. chuck is david copperfield of radio money he can make it disappear fast

no, i'm seeing them right, Kent Cooper was the GM in 08 and 09 and a $ 414,000 profit changed into a loss.

any GM would have been fired. managment would not have been doing its job if Kent Cooper was not fired.

wonder if BIA and the other investors in Convergent Radio have seen the poor proformance Kent Cooper Turned in at Tejas in 09. they should

i can't stop looking at these numbers who ever posted them has given us a real insight into why radio groups make changes.

looks like some managment teams Kent Cooper and his group of managers can only manage durring the good times when times, when things get tough it takes a skill that maybe these guys don't have to make things work.

thanks again for posting these numbers, i was really thinking Tejas did not know what they were doing when they got rid of the old team. now i understand.

to cleto74 you wanted to play match the year with the GM, you need to get your years stright, Kent Cooper took over as GM of the Tejas Group at the end of 07, the group was profitable according to the numbers you posted.

the problem is Kent Cooper and his group of managers lost $ 900,000 in revenue from 08 to 09 and almost $ 500,000 in profit. Acording to the numbers you posted.

talk about making money and sales disappear!!!!

i have been reading this thread, about a good group of stations going down hill, i looked up the ratings and see no sign of going down hill. the only problem was the poor managment in 09 lead by Kent Cooper

... and the recession which saw revenues in their markets decline about 40% in those years.

have not seen any market where there was a 40% decline in revenue, checking the public companies no comapny was off by 40%

the trouble with percentages is most of them are made up on the spot.

radioman you r the one that seems to be making up numbers on the spot.

kent cooper entered tejas in august of 06

regards to companies being off 40% take your pick: EMC insurance then one called: corporate office properties missed by 35%
i found those two with a quick goog search general electric has had an 18% miss which means BILLIONS of $$ those are public co anyway we will never know what happns behind private co doors for better or worse

cleto74

don't know what GE, EMC Insurance and Corporate properties have to do with running radio stations in Corpus Christi, Texas,

think we were talking about public radio companies!!!

the numbers you posted tell the story as to why Kent Cooper was fired, numbers don't lie, people do. take a look again at the numbers between 08 and 09,

when he started really does not make a difference.

just heard town square madia is think of taking a station spanish in amarillo, they need to look at the numbers cleto74 posted for tejas broadcasting in the amarillo market,

To add insult to injury, it was brought to my attention recently that in 2004 they actually made a little over $300,000 profit so when Chuck took over early 2005 he began the process of instability. The fact that they brought Juan leads me to believe he still had no clue. As far as Kents' work I would match it up to the market revenues, ratings etc. Kent has never really done much with Hispanic formats and Tejas is primarily a Hispanic media company.

don't see any 2004 numbers posted so i guess you can make up all the numbers you want. i do see 08 and 09 posted and the loss of revenue and profit under Kent Cooper and a clear reason why he was fired, Kent and his right hand man Clayton Allen drove a profitable opperation into the ground in one year. Clayton Allen was hired to improve the Country Station and was never able to to that.

tejas has two english stations and two spanish stations in Corpus looks like Kent Cooper could not manage either in 09.

Did any station have an up year in 2009? IIRC-- automobile dealers nationwide spent a billion dollars less in advertising than the year before. And they weren't the only ones cutting back.

Fred you are right, radio groups need to make cut backs when advertising dollars are cut, when revenues drop 33% and profit falls from a healthy number to negitive like they did for Tejas in 09 under the direction of Kent Cooper and Clayton Allen, the changes need to start with the managment.

It seems you want to focus blame when the evidence suggests there were other factors at work contributing to the down years.

BTW-- are radioman921 & radioman922 the same person?
