Well, it looks like that "Telemundo Regional News" has hit...
1) It's title is "Conteo de Noticias Telemundo" - Count of the Telemundo News. It takes a "countdown" approach - 5 stories listed, and works through each one - with an other segment between them (weather, "[Hoy ]en Mexico", "Del Mundo", breaks, sports etc.).
2) Theme music is a "driving" theme - not melodic in my opinion
3) So much for local news - emphasis is on stories that affect the region; up side is that stories are several minutes long, providing the ability to go in depth a little further or play longer interviews.
4) Some needs to show the staff how to properly encode digital video, so that the scan lines appear in the proper order... Nothing worse than seeing frames out of order 1B,black,2B, 1A, 3B, 2A, especially on a story with fast-moving cars...
5) At least the weathercasts are localized (early in the newscast there was a brief Houston/San Antonio/Dallas current conditions map, but only had the Houston weather during the weather segment)
6) Sports is region-wide... (NBA with Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio logos on the screen), emphasis seemed to be on Futbol...
7) Copyright isn't Telemundo, but "Telemundo Production Center"...
Personally, I hope it tanks and they bring back local newscasts, but I'm not holding my breath. At least follow the model used by some stations covering a large area for their newscasts: main segment seen across the network of stations, but add in a local segment with truly local news & weather. For sports, since they appear to focus on major league/international sports, a shared sportscast is probably appropriate. I do find the "Countdown" format intriging - I wonder when we'll see an English-language station follow that model...
