Teletoon Retro will be gone on September 1st.

They're pulling the plug at 5:59 AM. Some of the shows will be moving to Teletoon. No reason was given but knowing Corus' history of shutting down radio stations, this comes as no surprise. If I were to guess, I'm assuming it's low ratings.

That's a bummer! First, they're shutting down AM radio stations, and now they're shutting down a cartoon network. That really sucks!

And look what's taking its place: a Canadian version of Disney Channel.

Disney Channel's Canadian Launch is September 1st

Corus Entertainment has lined up Disney Channel’s biggest stars to celebrate its launch in Canada on Tuesday, September 1. K.C. Undercover’s Zendaya, Jessie’s Peyton List and the upcoming sitcom BUNK'D, Girl Meets World’s Sabrina Carpenter and Austin & Ally’s Calum Worthy and Raini Rodriguez will usher in the full Disney experience to Canadian families. Rounding out the week will be the highly anticipated debut of the new animated series Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the best of Disney Channel’s hit original movies.

Looks like Corus has got a near-monopoly on Kids' TV in Canada.

But is it a direct replacement (as in being on the same channel and a sudden change from teletoon retro to disney) or the elimination of one service in favour of another? That's what Corus did with AM 1220 in Cornwall. Turned it off in favour of their FM.

Here's more on the Great Canadian Kids TV Shakeup:

DHX Media, which is losing the Disney license, is rebranding three of its channels. Disney Junior (English) will become Family Jr., Disney Junior (French) will become Télémagino, and Disney XD will become CHRGD. The linked article says the networks would still air some Disney content, but doesn't say for how long. The Disney Junior and Disney XD brands are likely going to Corus as well.
