Tell me about "Diamond" Sheetz

One of the secretaries at CC in Maitland used to have a sign up that said "In Memory of "Diamond" Dick Sheetz." The only problem was that CC turnover was so frequent that very few people in the building could tell me who Sheetz was and I didn't get along with the secretary so I never bothered to ask her.

Anyone have any info?

From what I recall, Dick was the PD of WJRR for many years, and PD of the CC Orlando group I believe as well. He was diagnosed with a terminal cancer in early 2000 and passed away in October of that year, at age 47. I only had one personal encounter with him, but he was a very nice guy and well-respected by others.

There are alot of people still at CC who remember this guy....I remember the day Crash said on the air that he passed away...it was a sad day for me, I wish I had the chance to meet this man.

He was the PD of 'JRR, and also did interim afternoons a couple times if memory serves me correctly (and it frequently doesn't). I talked to Pat Lynch about him once and got rave reviews of the guy.

Thanks guys.

So how come the WJRR studios aren't called "The Dick Sheets Memorial Studios" like 620 in Tampa calls their studios "The Chris Thomas Memorial Studios?"

Dick Sheetz was one of the classiest and most genuine guys to ever grace Orlando radio with his presence. His legacy should have lived on for years; it's a shame that his name is no longer present at JRR's studios. Probably has something to do with Fat Lynch's ego.

I worked at that cluster in the Paxson days-Dick was a nice guy with a good word for everyone, no matter which station you worked for, no matter how high on the totem pole you were. he liked people...and people liked him back.

Dick was a "Diamond" in the rough...he was a GEM of a man that always had time for anyone, respected and loved human kind and loved what he did.....I'm curious as to who you spoke to and if that person was me, because I will gladly tell you that if ever there was a person I wish were still around, it's him..not to mention he had a voice that made women quiver!
