Tell Us Bellis...

Very important note in the article...their Chief Met's contract is up in Feb 2011 and hasn't been renewed. Bellis will obviously be the Chief Met there. Otherwise, there's no reason for him to leave Phoenix and be the Noon met 3 days per week and the Sat pm met.

So, who will be the next Chief Met at ABC 15? Hopefully, they will actually find someone as good as Bellis. Jayme King, from Fox 10, would make a great Chief Met but is probably under contract right now.

Well first off congrats go out to Mr. Bellis. I think this is exciting for him. I do agree what an odd schedule he will be on. Surprised he is taking a downgrade, that is how I see it anyways.

Hopefully in the selection of this new Chief Meteorologist they will also be smart and higher another part-timer/fill in for the impending maternity leave of Amber Sullins. I can't imagine Rich Dalquist being the entire weather anchor team. That would be crazy. Boy will I miss her contribution to NOW@9 when she is temporarily gone. I have to imagine her due date is fast approaching.

I wonder what Ron Meritt is doing these days. He's been tapped as a fill-in for a couple of different stations here in the past.

I agree that they do need a part-time weather person. Perhaps it could just be a reporter with weather experience (or who desires to learn weather) who could fill-in as needed. It usually doesn't take rocket science to do the weather in Phoenix.

MusicFan...Chicago, a downgrade? It's market 3! THREE.
Even if he's not onair as much, it's the proverbial foot in the door & he's all set, IMHO. He's good, fairly young, personable & cute. He's just gotta decide if he's Cubs or White Sox.

I think MusicFan was trying to point out (as I did too) that the schedule seemed very strange. However, the breaking news was that the contract of the Chicago station's Chief Met Amy Freeze is up in Feb 2011 and is not being renewed. Therefore, it is likely that Bill is going to be the Chief Met there. So, I think we all agree that we would take a strange schedule for a few months if we were going to get the top job in market 3.

Today (Thursday 23 December) is Bill Bellis last day on ABC 15. He will be doing the 10:00 PM newscast.

Good Luck Bill!

It was so sweet last night on the 10pm news that they showed a great video tribute to him and Katie had tears coming down her face. So touching. What she said really hit home that the team at abc 15 were more than co workers they were friends. Good Luck Bill, always loved your weather segments. Maybe Now @ 9 can bring you in for live weather updates from Chi town when you get all the cold blowing snow ;-)

Where he's headed it'll be 10 that can bring him in, not 15.

I saw the video and it was great. It's on ABC15.com. The link is too long but if you select Weather it's near the bottom.

The video was very nicely done as were the tributes at the end. Fouhy almost broke down as well.

At the end of the 5 pm newscast Thursday, they showed a segment where they put his face on a Jib-Jab dancing elves clip - pretty funny stuff.
