Telos Audioactive POS

I have a Telos Audioactive that I'm having some "fun" with. On the same internal LAN I can the *(#&$ thing to stream only in raw TCP mode, but when I try the HTTP mode as their wonderful indirections suggest with the protocalls they suggest, nothing works. Has anyone got one of these damn things to actually work right just as a stand-alone stream? All I'm looking for is for it to sit in the rack and allow me to listen to a plain-jane mp3 stream. http://192.168.1.25:8005/13audio.mp3 or .m3u is the protcall I'm using. (port changed to not conflict with the webserver here when accessing from the outside) Sometimes it will say something about not being able to start the server when I change port numbers. I haven't called Telos yet as it's a discontinued product and I'm likely to get the runaround.

Thanks for the help in advance!

You need to call Telos. They still support the Audioactive box. I use one for streaming high school football games, and it works just fine.

Thank you Frank!

I called and got great help right away. The biggest problem was a syntax error in the way I put the thing in the player to play out. (http://ipaddy:port/l3audio.mp3) (l being L as in layer 3.. I was trying a 1.. The thought didn't occur to me. ooops!) Also, with my older version, it will only play in the audioactive player, not Winamp. Appearently there is a e-prom update I have ordered for 8 bucks that will make it work with the current shoutcast/winamp stuff without the l3audio.mp3 extention. So, it's working great now using the player! This thing is awsome!

Thanks!

I've had one for 2 years, the initial set up was frustrating but after that I had it feeding our shoutcast server over the internet. It has always had a funny problem and is in service at Telos as of right now 3 weeks. It streams fine until you go above 96K sample rate and it starts to skip, buffer and break up very bad, even on an internal LAN with no congestion. It's been suggested the ethernet card has issues. Hope it dosen't cost much to fix, were a non-profit educational LPFM and the cost of the unit used was not cheap. I'm suppose to hear back today about it. I can't wait to put it back in service, beats having another PC in the rack.

Variac. A cheaper back up solution would be to get a Barix instreamer, which has been discussed on the board before.

We run it for our stream and it has been going 2 years with only a break when the whole building lost power for longer than our UPS could sustain us.

Highly recommended and the encoder on our early firmware unit is fantastic.

ditto on the Barix.great stuff. They are getting a broadcast pro version with xlr's and AES instead of those darn RCA jacks, which should be ready for the 07 NAB.It will give Comrex and the other players a hot run for the bucks.from what i understand it will be less than 1300.per end, about half of what the comrex price is currently.i just love competition.....

Thanks I will look into the Barix! I received my Audioactive back from Telos, they say there was nothing wrong with it and just re seated some boards and connectors however it still does the same thing of breaking up and buffering on an internal test network let alone the net, and I still have to pay the $118 repair bill because they looked at it.

Thanks guys for the tip

Variac,

Please contact me off-list so we can get your unit working properly. I'm sure there is an answer, and we'll help you find it.

Is Barix going to change the coding from MP3? That is why I haven't worked with them so far. I thought I read some where they were going to start using AAC. Anyone know if this is true?

I dunno. Their documentation on their site is pretty bad... its all stuff from old firmware versions.

We're using a PC for an AAC feed for mobile listeners. But Windoze is not always very reliable. Oh yeah, who am I kidding?

I'd buy anothert Barix in a heartbeat.

Frank- what is the best way to reach you off the list? I'm running it in HTTP mode with the latest firmware update I believe. Like I mentioned it plays, it just buffers or breaks up (maybe the same thing) every minute or so. Telos said they never heard of one doing this. Does yours that you use for football ever encounter excessive buffering (net congestion aside) ? I can provide the link to listen and put it back on the net.

Thanks again all

Hay PKC, what ever became of Dennis Orcutt, and Chester Grubbs, and all of those guys? And, does the family of skunks still live out by the TV towers at the tower farm?

Dennis is till around at KMGL (KOFM) working for Renda. Regretfully, Chester passed away this year after just retireing just a couple of years before. As far as the stinkers, I'm glad I haven't met them. hehe

Take care!

Well, I'm sorry to hear Chester's gone. Truly Dynamic, he was :):)
We met the skunks one night about twenty five years or so ago, while screwing around with KKNG. Went over to TV land for something or other, and Mama and her half grown kits were parading across the grass. We gave them a wide berth. I suspect their descendants are still around, I certainly wouldn't want to try to remove them.
