Telos VX and Voxpro?

Last year, we purchased a shiny new Telos VX system, we planned to roll it out first to a new station (an AXIA studio) we were building out. Unfortunately we couldn't come up with one key piece of functionality that was a "deal breaker" for our operators. I'm wondering if anyone else out there is using the VX and if you've come across this problem/solution to the problem which Telos has been slow in helping us with?

Our old system, the Gentner TS612, had closures that we used to automtically fire recording in our Voxpro system each time a call was taken so our talent could quickly navigate calls during flurries and edit them later. This GPIO logic closure however is vacant as near as I can tell in the Telos VX system, and to our talent, this is a crippling oversight. I've been commissioned by management to "get this in the studio no matter what" even though talent would be kicking and screaming about how clunky it is to now record/edit their calls.

The VX Engine has a host of GPIO closure options, but none of them matches the functionality we're looking for.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi, and thanks for using the VX.

I'm Kirk Harnack, VP of Telos Products. Indeed, I suspect the GPIO function you're seeking isn't in the current VX software, but planned for a coming update. I'm checking now.

Best,

Kirk

Great, let me know when you get word, it would be much appreciated!

It turns out there is already a GPO that may work fine for you, but by it's name it may not be obvious. Here's the reply on this question from one of our VX developers:

--

There is no explicit "line is on air" indication. If the
talent is taking at most one call on air at a time, always using the
same fader, they could do with the "can hold" or "can drop" indications.
Both are essentially the same - they indicate that there's at least one
call on air.

--

So, if you bring to GPO the "Can Hold" or "Can Drop" indication, you'll get a GPO for a call present on 1 fader. My guess is that this will suffice for you.

I've asked the dev team for a summary indication for 2 or more faders, so in case you need to record when a call is on any VX fader (if you use more than 1) that a GPO will be available for that.

I'm copying this info to our Support Team. They're available at support (at) telosalliance (dot) com or by phone at +1 (216) 622-0247.

Best,

Kirk Harnack

Joe was originally in the mix and very helpful with some other issues, but I know he was incredibly busy. Steve, my boss, visited the NAB booth a few times (hoping that would be our golden ticket) only to see Joe being swarmed by engineers like Bees to a hive.

For this application, we are using only one fader, one call at a time so this could work for us. This is just what I was hoping for. I need to read through your solution one more time to make sure I get it, but I'll do some testing and see if this works like I am hoping it will! Just the kind of inside solution I was hoping for :~)
