Ten years ago: April 1 and 2, 1999

Long time rocker KDF flipped to country. Carl P. Mayfield was back on air. Following day Power Country 102.9 changed to new rock "The Buzz".

Seems like yesterday or maybe 3 or 4 years ago. The Tennessean had a headline a few
days before (late March '99) that KDF would flip to country. I was having sh-tfits to
everyone I knew thinking how could Nashville have FOUR country FM's (102-9 went
"all Garth" for one day). But I was ok when I flipped over to 102-9 went alternative.
Just hated that KDF went country and I still do.

'KDF was a joke! ::)

A bit of tribia for you. Do you know what KDF's last song was? It's not the one WRQQ Used to flip to oldies. Somewhere on a VHS tape I have that format change.

I remember between midnight and 6 a.m. the day they flipped KDF played "Closing Time" back to back for 6 hours.

Some more tribia 4 U. What was the last song played on the old 92Q back in 1982 (?), when the station was sold so Mooney Broadcasting could buy
107?

IIRC...it was "Piss On The Walls" by J Geils Band (Al Woody snuck that in)...

True; They did play closing time for almost 6 hours. They went from a final playing of closing time to another song...A song more fitting for what was about to happen to Nashville radio. The song was: "Its the end of the world" by R.E.M. After that song they had a few spots then they went in to the intro of the new format. Then they played the first country song.

okay my mistake i should have asked "Does any one, besides Romer, remember the last song played on the old 92Q?" CR once again proving he is the radio god of Nashville. Good memory Chris.

IIRC first country song on KDF was "Don't Rock the Jukebox" by Alan Jackson.

The first format change I heard was when SM-95 went country They had Kris with Jazz with Kris "with a K Bradley." The title of his last was "the last song." Then they had a news cast from The Source. After that they played the intro and started the format with Thank God I'm a Country Boy by John Denver.

anyone remember the last rock song and who played it before WKDA AM went country ? ;)

I dont know the last song, and I might be wrong here, but wasnt it Buddy Sadler who played the last rock song on WKDA?

Forgot the exact date, but was either the first or second Sunday in March 1970. At 11:55 am I played the Fifth Dimension and "A Change is Gonna Come" followed by a 5 minute news cast, follewed by Mac Allen kicking off the new country sound with Buck Owens "I've Got a Tiger By the Tail."
Time has passed, I've forgotten the exact date or what was in the news cast....but I'll never hear those two songs without remembering my thoughts as Buck's song kicked off, "oh Man.....are you sure we wanna do this?????
Mac (who also was o-m) and I shared an apartment and would have gone in search of work at a good rock station like Jay Thomas and others....but didn't want to get caught without a job. Wound up being one of our better decsions

My only format change experience was not a good one... when Ron Bledsoe sold Kicks 104 to some Atlanta lawyers, they changed it to "Rock Hits 104" ... the first song was "Flirtin' With Disaster." And it was.

They had Kris with Jazz with Kris "with a K Bradley." K with a K Bradley now owns and operates the largest flooring store in southern Indiana...far cry from his days at WHIN, WMAK, and the jazz nights.......
