Ten years ago today - Sept. 19, 1997

It was 10 years ago today that Rich Mullins was killed in an accident when he lost control of his Jeep. I can remember that I had just started to really get into his music not too long before his death. I also missed a chance to see him in concert in my area not too long before that. I definitely regret that now. Any other thoughts?

Rich was a class act. I remember that weekend ... just another accident on the interstate until someone figured out who Richard Wayne Mullins was. Then the news slowly spread Saturday Night and through Sunday.

It was one of those times I was really glad to be on the air to help the listeners understand the news and mourn.

Rich was a superstar without the personal stardom ... the music God gave through him still lives on.

I had met Rich a couple of times before concerts but the last time just a year before his death was the most memorable. I was working at a mission in Farmington, NM. when I ran into Rich in the lobby. We struck up a conversation that ranged from the accostic qualities on a Navajo hogan (traditional dwelling) to radio and its relavance to spreading the Gosple. It was a genuine conversation and I listen quite a bit until he suddenly relized that he was hour and a half late for an appointment. I realy felt as though I had made a friend and I hope that even though our meeting was breaf that he felt the same.

i am a little late in posting this but i remember the day this happened. i had a sinking feeling. rich had some awsome music and he left us with one of the most AWSOME songs of all time!
