Terre Haute Book

640 has been silent for some time. AM 1130 in Brazil, and AM 1300 Terre Haute had decent signals during the day, but are really poor at night. Not much can be done about that, but if and when 640 should ever be available it could make somebody a decent station with great coverage. A news/talk format along with sports can work.
As far as Crossroads, it a shame, hopefully they can figure out what to do. Time will tell.... As far as WTHI-FM. I'm told that they bleed all over the place. Someone I know says that he can even hear them in his telephone! Is this legal?

Of course none of us in radio are ever bitter after being dropped. Yeah, right!!
However, I can't help put find it completely amusing that the big WIN 98.5 stayed flat after the big move to Terre Haute and after dropping my long running Sunday night Classic Country show. Gee, I thought I was the root of all their problems. Now I find that they got rid of about the only thing that was giving them any kind of number. Again, no bitterness here. Guess that "move" in a new direction is going well.

I can pick up WTHI on a good radio about 40 miles from the tower on 100.1 and 99.7.

Far as legality, it probably is legal. I'm no engineer, but I'm told bleeding onto a 1st or 2nd adjacent is often not preventable, therefore the spacing requirements.

I found WINH's numbers amusing as well. Especially with all the billboards and a completely revamped lineup. I wonder if the shift drove more listeners to WTHI and picked up some "new" country listeners for WINH.

If you look at the book, country went down in Terre Haute. Hi99 Lost, The Crock Really Lost, and 98.5 stayed flat.

Look no further than Knoxville, TN where WIVK Country has a 25 in the latest full book (Summer '06) and whatever is in second place has a 7.1 .

25 and the rest well below.. I remember the first ARB in Carbondale-Marion in the late 70's... 'CIL-FM had a 27 or near it with CHR and W-Three-D had a 15 or so with Country...WTAO had about a 10 in AOR and the rest was divided up by 10 other area am/fm's and about a half dozen power signals out of St.Louis... That was a four county deal with just 150,000 (12+)...Our 7 to midnight at 'CIL-Fm was a 49 share... Those days are far gone in that market....

Wasn't the WPFR-FM of the late 70s & early 80s a 50K station? The station once owned by the Oak Ridge Boys.

Signal and stability also contribute to HI-99's success.

The Waking Crew has been on for a decade, as has Dianne House. Party Marty was on for something like 12 years, ending in November. And the only two 50,000 watters are THI and MGI, who have been the top two stations in the area for as long as I've been looking at ratings.

WBOW-FM is on PFR's old frequency.

Though WBOW-FM is not at 50kw, it is a full Class "B" with a taller stick and lower ERP.. Thus, 'THI, 'MGI and 'BOW are under the same basic footprint (WBOW-FM's tower is south of town off Indiana 63 near the river/state line....

Does anyone remember what WBOW-FM's ratings were about two years ago? I do. They were a miserable 2.0. Does anyone remember what the station sounded like a couple years ago? I do. Song rotation and imaging were weak, not to mention air talent...not strong at all...especially mornings. The current PD has had to rebuild the station. Has anyone here actually had to do that? Let's step back even further...does anyone here have programming experience? If so, you know it's hard work and you will struggle. Stop hatin' and be a "wannabee."

I don't ever remember them being a 2.0 . They may have had a 3 at one time. The whole problem with the station and Crossroads as a company is consistency. Everythime they get a station sounding good, they tweak the music or imaging. Then they sell ads dirt cheap and load up the spot load. They put a GM on a morning show. I dont question the PD's lack of effort and lack of tools to work with. I am questioning Crossroad's upper management decisions.

Ok, Crossroads had a bad book this time around. I don't remember them having a 2 share. I don't think I've ever seen it that low when I lived in the area. I'm reading some positive, and some not so positive things about the P.D. at Crossroads, don't know him or even seen his name mentioned on this board. I'm curious to those of you who had programing experience, or those wanna bees. What would you do with a 50kw like B102.7 if you had the chance? I've noticed in past books that AC hasn't done well in Terre Haute like other markets, but the oldies have done consistantly well on a small stick. Maybe some of the younger wanna bees wouldn't, but could oldies work on B102.7? That would you do??

A second Generation Oldies (Superhits of the 60's-70's) on the FM and find an AM to mirror a first Generation Oldies ('54 to '65 era) on the AM side, somewhere (more for a one-two image punch)....The second Generation Oldies in working class Evansville is doing GREAT over the old WJPS format that leaned on more '58 to '71 hits... I would try it and put ol' TOM KENT at night and overnight.... Then Mike Harvey and Dick Bartley and the Beatles syndicated stuff on the weekends.. Good tight AM show that is more music oriented with news/weather and scores....Midday and Afternoon live and 6:am to 6m live on Saturdays, 10:am to 6m live on Sundays.... And a throwback to radio that was cost effective and yet paid talent well... Some air, some sales, some promotion with talent fee.... It worked well for me, everytime.. Maybe people would stay and air talent can sell against any book to mom and pops in small cities like this (where they really don't care about, or understand ratings)..... Just my take... Terre Haute, Evansville, South Bend, Fort Wayne are working class communities....
