Terre Haute Market

Well we have had two station flip format in this market since last book. The flat-lining B102.7 is now WBOW Your Music Your Station & the struggling WIN 98.5 (aka the second choice for Country) has made the move to Terre Haute's News / Talk 98.5 WIBQ. I believe that both companies did what they thought was best for them but which one of these stations will come out of the next book with better numbers and will it impact the market as a whole? Will any other station move up or down because of these new formats in the market?

I think there will be some movement in the rankings because of some of these changes. Anyone else on board with this or do you just think that it's a bunch of nothing?

WBOW-FM will still be sitting around tenth.

WIBQ will be in the top 5 in the market.

12+, Spring 2009 book.

I think both stations will move up in 12+ WBOW is now using dial global network which does a good job, however the morning show will hurt them.
It will be interesting to see how well Terre Haute adopts talk fm. Too bad Midwest didn't take full advantage of Rush's controversial speech a few weeks ago. I'm just now seeing the Rush billboards. Also I heard they hired Ronn Mott, but he's in sales. For those of you who know this man, he's got 50 years in the business behind the microphone and is very knowledgeable and some what controversial himself. Midwest has no ideal, or clue to what kind of talent they are wasting.
Put this man on the air and give it a shot. Your gonna like what you hear!

Hey folks, we’re glad to have you with us…. It’s a great day for a horse race… let’s set the stage…

Having gone to the winners circle and worn the crown of roses for the past 25 races with a comfortable lead each time, and with no real challengers, HI-99 has already gone back to the stables to relax and enjoy her well earned high quality oats. She seems to be a little lonely but her owners assure us that she is doing fine… meanwhile, even though Mix and the River have only been able to battle each other for 2nd and 3rd place they seem to be happy with that and are also heading back to the stables for a little well deserved relaxation…. But don’t think that the excitement is over folks… we still have quite a contest for you today….

It’s a race like we’ve never had before… IT’S A RACE TO THE LOSERS CIRCLE.. WHO WILL WEAR THE CROWN OF BLACK ROSES AND THEN HEAD OFF TO THE GLUE FACTORY TO BE PUT OUT OF HER MISERY?

Ladies and Gentlemen ……. THEY’RE OFF! …. The ESPN twins and the Crock have an early lead as they head into the first turn in their race to the bottom with a strong lead…. But this race is far from over…. WBOW and WIBQ aren’t going to let them run away and lose this just yet… they look surprisingly strong and are gaining fast in this race to the bottom… both of these new challengers are surprisingly quick and a real surprise as no one knew they existed… and they are gaining fast….. They are through the short shoot and into turn two….

Will the ESPN twins and the Crock hold off these two unknown challengers or will there be a surprise finish in the end? And what about the fact that none of these horses have a jockey.. no one to guide them…. THEY ARE COMPLETELY ON THEIR OWN! But first we need to take a quick break… but since we have no sponsors willing to pay for ads… we’ll take a short time out for some PSA’S….

STAY WITH US FOLKS…. THIS COULD BE EXCITING ( or not )

I wonder if WNDI out of Sullivan or the Crock will pick up some of the WINH listeners? Or most likely, they will go back to Hi 99. WIBQ may do well with men over 35, but I don't see it doing well with females. I do enjoy their lineup (Not real big on Bill Bennett or Mark Levin, I think there are some better options out there for those slots, but they clearly do well nation-wide, so you can't fault Midwest for using those shows.)

I could see WBOW taking a small piece of The Valley's audience. 95.9 has always been just outside the top 5, but I think ever since Midwest took the format to "The Valley" it hasn't sounded right. It's always sounded a bit off to me. It sounds scripted, and not local at all. Are the jocks all imported like on WBOW? I don't even hear Danny Wayne on it except on the weekend or Steve Hall on it anymore at all. I would think a good, interactive and local morning show would fit with the Valley right now. A morning show that wouldn't talk to much, but would find a way to interact with the listener. Right now they don't have anything close to that, and they haven't since 2004 or 2005. Back in it's Y96 days, I remember that they did a lot of local events and a lot of on-air interaction, and it complimented their big sister station Mix-FM well. They had a pretty strong lineup of well-known jocks from the area. It wasn't a Top 3 station, but I think it did well considering the niche format of 80's and the weaker signal. Will Midwest ever figure out how to make 95.9 work and be relevant again? Maybe they should have done N/T on 95.9 and done something else with 98.5????

What format is WBOW now,,, sounds the same, but automated... Are they mainstream AC or a HOT AC now... Before they sounded on the fence between CHR and Hot AC...

What is 95.9 now,,, I cant hear it here,, Isnt it a Rhythmic AC type station,, or is it Hot AC now... I know they arent all 80s anymore....

98.5 is actually in Paris ILL,,, they probably knew they could never compete with Hi 99, and all the other Country stations in that part of Indiana and Illinois...

"your music, your station" which is a long way of saying.... CONFUSION

Confusion? Is it any more clear a positioning statement than the 'Hits that keep you buzzing'

I get they were playing on the Bee Moniker but it, like the new one, never said what they were. The Wabash Valley's Country Station, Hi 99... The Wabash Valley's Rock Station, The River.... pretty clear cut who and what they are... It seems like people get so caught up in showing us all how much they know, and how clever they are that they forget the good old K.I.S.S. method of doing things. Why do so many people stick to that as the gospel... it works. Why do we recycle and repeat most of the same old tactics, slogans, promos? THEY WORK! People like it to be simple and they like it to be familiar.

btw... if you're not familiar with that method I just mentioned, ask around and see if anyone you work with is familiar with it.

I don't think anyone at 13th and Ohio knows what the format is. You have a morning show who's music is different than the network (dial global). On Sunday they air Fox All Access which is a far cry from the soft rock that the network provides all week. Then you have a morning show that has too much talk and on top of that the female host contributions are mostly inappropriate at best. In fact now that she's on vacation, about 95% of the talk is gone, which is good. By the way I heard the term live and local, so with that said why didn't the morning show give the temperture during the weather Friday morning? I'm taking back what I said in a earlier post, I don't think it's long for this world.

95.9 is now an Adult Hits/Classic Hits hybrid. More Classic Hits all day and Adult Hits with Tom Kent at night. I does sound better now than it did after Midwest originally took it over and killed a great sounding station that was unique in this market. The former PD of 95.9 is now back with the company as the OM and has changed a lot of music on 95.9 & 100.7. Don't know what capacity he played in the change of 98.5 to News Talk but there has been a lot of staff and music/format changes happen since he rejoined the cluster.

the "slogan"/Your Music/Your Station, says NOTHING about WHAT the station's format is, and after listening to this mis-matched hodgepodge of CR^&P somebody NEEDS an explanation as to WHAT it IS!... as a public service, so they can AVOID it at all costs, should they run across it again on their radio dial.

A left turn from this topic...but I'm a Hoosier in exile! I grew up in Owen County and used to love listening to Barry Kent on WBOW. Is he still in the business?

Barry has been doing mornings at WTHI-FM for ... close to 20 years now?
