Terre Haute

The new answer to what? The market actually has to many stations and far to many stations that have pretty poor management. A new broom could be the answer to some of the market problems. Crossroads cluster is stuggling, Midwest is just there, and Emmis ownes the market!

The end of Mismanagement is the "Answer". I agree with the too many weak stations, but if you are the only game in town...you should win. Hi-99 should win big there and 'MGI should be a solid second. I spent a lot of time with Mix's former morning show co-host there and she told me about the Market and Brand managers "way of doing things". I still listen from time to time and it sounds like I'm sitting in on "Girlfriend and his Hags" all day. Not bad for a Hot AC, but a CHR needs an edge...However, if you are the only game in town...you win by default. My question: is that really a victory?

WMGI is keeping the money rolling in, but they needed a new GM? That doesn't calculate. WBOW is improving but from where they are, that's all they can do. Kyle is the morning sounds good and they added channel 2 news and wx. I hear them a lot in businesses during the day. Maybe that's the angle?

Swart was moved in because rumor has it Midwest is going to get bigger in Indiana from Lafayette to South Bend, Bloomington to Terre Haute. Just sayin!

If this happens it will put a nail in the casket for Crossroads and become a thorn in the side of Emmis. This addition to Midwest could give them a huge region footprint for advertisers.

Doesn't matter. Crossroads has used TV-2 before, WBOW improving? Not under current ownership.. But while we are on a Terre Haute Thread... Congratulations to Rick Rhodes who hosts "Country in the Valley" on Sunday nights on HI-99!! His time slot numbers were from what I was told, gigantic!! Keep up the good work. Umm, if country oldies do so well on HI-99 I wonder what might happen if someone tiried rock n roll oldies on another 50kw station?? Don't worry, won't happen in Terre Haute.

How does WYXY out of Champaign-Urbana do in Terre Haute? When the station was Extra 99.1 with 80s heavy AOR format, I remember seeing it in the 12+ numbers. If classic country does well on Hi 99, I'm curious if Wixy Classic is seeing modest success for an out of market station in Terre Haute. If so, classic country may be something worth considering for an under-performing station there. Just sayin'.

Milo, Rock N Roll Oldies just is not an appealing format for advertisers anymore. Look at markets similar to Terre Haute across the US, and you would have an extremely hard time finding a station doing well in ratings and showing strong revenue. The format is dead.

Great for Rick and his ratings, I enjoy listening to it every now and then, but let's not kid ourselves. In a market the size of Terre Haute, there is probably less than 20-25 diaries filled out on Sunday night, so to get "huge" numbers is not incredibly hard (especially if you are on the station with over a quarter of the market share already). Regardless, Rick is great at what he does and has a passion for it, he deserves his success.

Midwest has a nice satellite Classic Country on 1440 AM out of Paris, but it really can only be heard outside of Paris during the daytime.

RO77. I see you point, but Terre Haute has a large listening audience in that demo. Why can't someone at least give it a shot? If done well I think it would show some promise. Three stations doing very similar programing doesn't make sence to me.
Long live 1440! Anyone who plays music on am has my vote!!

If the money keeps rolling in, then yes.

Which takes us back to the ONLY game in town line of thought. It's good to know that Mid-west has taken the steps it needs to expand, because smaller companies will hopefully remove radio from "Life support" some day. The fact that they brought in a REAL GM proves their lack of confidence in the Moron who was in charge

Def could be their lack of confidence. However, if you look at Midwest's other markets they only do really well after buying as many stations as they can. I'm not sure the GM or talent/leadership makes as much of a differnce to them as owning so much of the pie that if someone wants a piece, they are one of the only options.

Its official! It was announced to both staffs that Midwest has purchased WBOW AM and FM! This might explain why they moved the previous GM back to OM since his background is Programming and these stations will need a lot of attention.

I worked with Bill Cain at WFMS years ago and thought he was very smart. He's a good dude. Best of luck to Midwest as they take control of WBOW.

The biggest issue with an oldies format is advertisers will not spend the kind of money on that format like they will on others. Why? Because the age demo of the oldies format is not as appealing (age 55 plus). It would not matter if the station would be top 5 or even 3 in the ratings. If you don't have the age demo the majority of the advertisers want, then you are doing no more than running up your light bill.

Good Move Midwest!

Are WSDM, WSDX and WAXI (the rest of the Crossroads properties) up for sale? My bet is yes...
