Good luck to Terri in her new gig.
However, I question exactly how much control the PD & MD of G Rock actually has. WHTG has gone through so many personnel changes since Press Communications purchased it over 6 years ago, and with all due respect to the staff, it seems that few have been able to assert any kind of influence on the station's sound. It seems to me that Press have a fixed image of what they want G Rock to be, and that's a very tightly formatted Alternative that pounds the hits, targets Females first and foremost with a much softer sound than most Alternatives, deems acts like Tool "too heavy" for regular play, believes that Alternative Radio begins with Nirvana (you're lucky if you hear anything from before 1991 once every 15 or so songs), and has a very, shall we say, warped view of what is Alternative - apparently hammy Heart wannabes Evanescence, scuzzy Lynyrd Skynyrd wannabes Shinedown, and sleazy Aerosmith wannabes Buckcherry are part of the G Rock world of Alternative. While the station is currently sounding the best it has under Press ownership (mostly thanks to a solid airstaff and a respectable selection of Currents - the latter is very good but could be better, as The Ace in Atlantic City is playing more Currents than G Rock), it has not sounded like a true Alternative since the FM 106.3 days (yes, many of us still remember that station).
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't understand why an Alternative is making Females their top target, especially in a market where 90% of the stations target them as well. It makes about as much sense as a Soft Rock station for Men. What convinces me even more of this is G Rock's lackluster ratings. I think it could be performing a lot better if they made more of an effort to connect with their audience and looked to them for suggestions instead of making assumptions and slamming the same tired Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers hits into the ground.
That said, hopefully Terri actually has some say in the direction of G Rock's sound, and that more of an effort is made to court the neglected Male audience. She played an important role at WDHA and was certainly responsible for a lot of their success, but now the station is in sorry condition. Hopefully, with G Rock, she can take a good station and make it better.
