TERRIBLE AUTOMOBILE SALES SPOTS

::) Does anyone know who or what is doing the TERRIBLE (My Opinion) spots for Bob King Automotive on Radio and TV...Mike Hogwood is bad enough on the Kia spots, but the Bob King spots assures that I would never buy a vehicle from this dealership!...Awwwww it is so irritating! Comments please?
 
there are too many bad 1s in the market, so it's hard to just point one out, but hogwood is bad bad bad
 
As bad as Hogwood's spots are, Carolina Kia is selling a ton of cars! It ain't about art - it is about commerce!
 
Just imagine if we could lump all these car lots together...

"HI FOLKS! Tom Smith here for CAAAA-heh-ro-LIE-in-A Kia! Listen..."

I just wish they wouldn't "yell" at the consumer. C'mon, "$99 DOLLARS DOWN" really makes me want to go to Joe Blow Dodge and buy a car... ;D

Problem is they take a "one spot fits all" approach. Screaming may work well in some formatsm but it just drives me nuts to hear a screaming car commercial on a news-talk station. Always felt they were way out of place and offensive to the listener.
 
I just wonder if the guy on the Bob King spots is agency (national) and is he doing spots in other markets?
 
Isn't that the same guy as the "We're dealin'" series! That is one of those syndicated deals that car dealers seem to love.
 
As I said earlier, I am sure they are effective on some formats, but not on others. Point is the dealer needs to target his ads and not use the one size fits all approach.

By the way, I don't find the Hobgood commercals nearly as obnixous as those high energy, screaming ads! I would never respond to one of those. My daughter has a KIA and its a lot of car for the $$$.
 
Auto dealerships have, through the years, developed a language and culture that few outside the business fully understand.

It's amazingly similar to the language and culture developed over the years by the broadcasting industry.

Those who understand the culture of both, and how to develop synergy between them, are the only ones who really make money in either business.

While we are on spots, Who Pulled MayCay Beeler out of the pot to do those Triad ReBath Spots...Talk about awful...More to come on Triad terrible spots, but I'm on the way to Cocoa Beach in 30m....APE
 
If screaming auto spots really worked, then National auto spots
would yell, too! But, they don't. They focus group test their spots
for reaction.

Local car ads are awful. Any advertising is better than nothing, but
if local dealers would spend their money a GOOD commercials they would do better
and people would want to do business with them.
 
Everytime I hear the Bob King Kia/Hyundai/Mazda/Yugo ads I flip the channel immediately. Not $30,000 like Toyota, but $12(laughs),988 (with your good trade), comes with 8-track player, heater, seat belts, and way way more! Nobody beats Bob King, No-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-body!

Local car dealer spots are all about call to action...youse guys don't get it. The two work in concert with one another. Local is urgent, right now, price slash, you won't find a better deal, do it now, come in today for the best deal. National on other hand is helping you decide which brand to purchase- not price-exception might be national incentives which are BS rebates or percentage rates anyway. It ain't about how good the spot sounds, it's all about moving cars off the lot, ringing the cash register, selling widgets. C'mon you're smarter than that right?

BTW my old man (rest his soul) was in car business for a number of years. You want the best deal on a car go at the end of the Quarter or end of the year when they are trying to beat their quotas. Dealers will get a cash incentive from manufacturer on quantity of units moved, they will often cut commission or take a chunk off the price to get to the quota.

I'll guarantee you that a good spot will never see the light of day with local car dealers, but offer to put an elephant in the parking lot or free pony rides for the kids and they will salivate every time.
 
I'll have to record a clip from one of my local radio stations here in Baja Ontario and post it so you all can hear a car dealership ad done right. The owner of the place voices all his own ads. It's been done before, I know, but there's a difference: the man has a radio voice, he's straightforward without all the industry jargon and without yelling and screaming. He simply makes his plain-English sales pitch over a music bed, and that's it. In a world where every other dealership blows your eardrums out with bellowing, balls-to-the-wall shouts of "JUST $99 DOLLARS DOWN AND $99 DOLLARS A MONTH!", it's nice to hear someone actually talk to you in a car dealership ad.

May work for Kia and Hyundai, but most people shop price on the internet. and know what to pay. They pick
the dealer for convenience and reputation. Buyers of Honda, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, and other brands don't fall for that old school pitch. You can advertise price with sounding like a drag strip spot.
Several Raleigh dealers do this well.
