Terry Bradshaw Has A Howard Cosell Moment

I'm hungry,I'd chase a bucket of chicken right now! ;D

Shouldn't the subject title refer to a "Jimmy the Greek" moment? I never knew Cosell said anything even the slightest bit racist, but I don't get out much.

Hah-wad was a lot of unpleasant things, but racist was not one of them. But he was called out for calling Redskins WR Alvin Garrett a "little monkey" on a Monday Night Fooball game in 1983. He didn't mean it in a racist way at all, but the damage was done. In fact, Garrett himself defended Cosell. 1983 was his last year on MNF.

I didn't hear Bradshaw make the statement, but I think we have become so over sensitive over words. He said it, yes. It's on tape, so there's proof. But I don't believe he meant to insult anyone, let alone an overpaid athlete who dates reality-show starlets, helped injure his alma mater by accepting cash and gifts illegally, and allegedly had a low Wonderlic test score. Now that, you can rag Reggie Bush on.

BTW, as a writer, I find it disappointing to see sentences being with a number when they should be written out as a word. No malice was intended there. ;)

Jimmy Johnson was a guest on ESPN2 personality Dan LeBatard's Miami radio show yesterday (Monday Nov. 5th), and he confirmed Bradshaw's explanation that it was an inside reference to his enjoyment of fried chicken, and not an intentionally invoked racial stereotype.

If I didn't know better, I'd almost assume you think any slight on Reggie Bush was fine, despite this particular one [accidentally] involving racial stereotyping.

Oversensitivity or not, people have to be careful what they say on live television specifically because of social mediums making something viral. It's unfortunate for Bradshaw, who'd already be well known as a racist/racially insensitive dope if that were actually so. Even WITH the full context, the comment is still problematic.

Of course this coming Sunday we will hear a sincere apology from Bradshaw. Dog gone shame too. This is scary. Seems that almost any comment that could be stretched to indicate racism is big news of the day. Face it, anything can be said about Tim Tebow and its Ho Hum. Truth be said, there are select groups that are protected. C'mon, had Bradshaw said an Italian player was running as if chasing a pizza no one would have said anything. Going back many yeras, God knows Cosell meant nothing racist. Jimmy The Greek was only giving an opinion, be it right or be it wrong. The sensitivity and political correctness is out of control and dangerous.

Case in point: Don Imus' comments about the Rutgers U. Lady Scarlet Knights from five years ago. Listen to the entire exchange and you may come with a different view than those who slammed him and ultimately cost him his job.

But that is a consequence of the times that we live in, where the five-second soundbite reigns supreme and over-sensitivity prevails.

Three of the biggest infamous fried chicken eaters (or abusers?) pitched for the Red Sox here in Boston, it was much publicized two seasons ago, and they were all white.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

While he's at it, he should also apologize for "Home Team With Terry Bradshaw."

While he's at it can he apologize for the cattle wormer commercial he did in the 80's that I discussed in the scary ads thread? ::) :D

1) The racial stereotype in question IS out there
2) Your example doesn't negate it in the least.

It's a stupid situation, but a particular type of stupid. Denying it doesn't help.

There is a radio spot running here for Firehouse Subs. They are promoting Italian Subs. It was a 2 voicer. The gist was punctuation on the radio to which the 2nd voice said "he should talk with his hands because it is an Italian sub". Seriously doubt anyone is "offended". Sterotype? About time we get over being so dog gone sensitive. By the way, and to really veer from the subject, Delmon Young of the Tigers was found guilty of aggravated harassment for yelling anti Jewish slurs at a group of tourists and tackling one of them. Just a small foot note in the paper today. Seems it really depends on whom is offended and/or who the offender is.

Along with that record album he did in the 70s ::)

As someone who grew up watching Terry Bradshaw in his heyday here in Pittsburgh....

He was saying stupid things long, long before this incident,
AND
He will still be saying them long, long after we've all forgotten about it.
