Terry Dorsey and TMS silliness

How is it TMS Silliness? more like TMS brilliant marketing. They got how many segments out of it on KSCS do you think? at least a couple, right? How much would that be worth if you could buy a segment? Then they got that story on Yahoo, again, how much do you think that would be worth if that space was for sale? They'll get more talk on KSCS tomorrow (will he? won't he? tune in to find out!!!)...

And right now, Eddie Gossage is out exactly NOTHING. and what are the chances that Dorsey would actually do it? for Gossage it's a win-win. He gets a load of free publicity, the kind you can't pay for, and if by some outside, snowball in hell chance he does do it, Gossage gets even more publicity for a whole freaking year. 100K in ads won't draw the kind of attention that Dorsey changing his name would...Like I said, you see silliness, I see brillinat marketing****

***Which is why Cuban, who knows a thing or two about marketing offered Gordon Keith from the Ticket the same deal (100K) a few years ago to change his name to Dallas Maverick. You can't buy that kind of coverage...

So if Dorsey gets dropped by KSCS at contract renewal time (sometime this year, so I've heard,) would the deal be off?

Yeah, this is the most attention Dorsey's gotten since his heart attacks and Hiney Winery. The idea fits Dorsey better than Hal, at least.

OK, brilliant, but still silly nonetheless.

I'd change my name to Lavender Larry Lipshitz if someone offered me 10 Grand. But seriously, as someone who is now in the very early stages of possibly legally changing my name, a word of caution. It's a complicated process. People say, "Well, all you have to do is go before a judge and prove that you're not a felon and you're not running from the law or from creditors. And as long as your new name is not profane, the judge will grant your request." True. But what I've learned is that you then have to notify everyone that you are no longer John Doe and that you are now Elmo Farqwad. Or whatever. That means you notify every insurance company you deal with. The DPS (new driver's license.) Motor vehicle registration.... The IRS...Social Security (new card)...doctors and dentists...employer....past employers....the list goes on and on. But for many, it's worth it.

Doubt very seriously if I could walk up to Terry six months from now and say, "Hey TexasMotorSpeedway.Com, how the heck are you?
Besides, does he really need the 100 grand?

You are absolutely correct! I legally changed my name some 23 years ago (I knew I'd be in radio someday, and the old name just didn't "work"--ha) and sheesh--what a friggin' hassle!!! The biggest problem had to do with creditors posting information under BOTH names, so the old credit report took years and years to finally go away.

Really, I doubt Gossage expects Terry to legally change his name...it's more to do with Terry having to call himself "TMS" on the air every single day. BTW, would Citadel expect a cut of this $100,000 for Terry using THEIR airwaves to promote the TMS? That's like a free commercial every time TD intro's himself!
