Terry Young & Q102

I was just listening to Terry Young on XM and he told a caller he used to work at Q102 in Philly. I listened to him on WCAU-FM but don't recall him on any other station in town. IS his memory going or mine?

i wish xm would let terry do a shift on 80s on 8 just for one night

I believe the 60's channel is the only music channel that has live programming (Phlash Phelps and Terry Young). The 80's channel is one of the many voice-tracked channels. As much as I agree with your idea, I don't think Young would sound too good being voice-tracked.

Ack! It's "WCAU-FM" Mike! "WCAU" was 1210! (Sorry, big radio-geek pet peeve...)

Actually, a few years ago, Terry did in fact do one shift at '80s On 8. Unfortunately for me, I only caught the last half-hour or so of it.

You'd think wrong Wayne! A good amount of Terry's '60s On 6 work is indeed voice-tracked... That's how you know a jock is great at what he does-- even the pros can't tell whether or not it's live!

Terry Young is just an all-around awesome airtalent, and terrestrial radio is all the more poorer for continuing to chase the greats like him away...

I remember Terry at Q102. He started out as a guest Dj, filling in for Joe mama for a week or 2.. After Joe came back, Terry got such good reviews, they brought him back permanently only a week or 2 later. This was around 1997-98.

One of the best jocks ever in this market on the markets best station. Face it, Philly has had only one good radio station ever, 98 cau-fm.

i think , when he was at "hot hits" (yes , wcau back then) he went by the name "terrence alexander young" ... i think i have him recorded off of "hot hits" somewhere on tape

I would probably qualify that statement by saying after the 1970's Philly has only had one good radio station. There were two other great stations: WIBG in the 50s and 60s and WFIL in the 60s and 70s.

I'll agree with that, I'll even say that wmmr of the 80's was pretty good too.

As for Terry, I remember him going by motor-mouth.

Ok, its worth a shot.

Cau played a song in 1986 that had a girls voice saying "no no no senor". Does anyone know what song that was?

That was Don Quichote by Magazine 60. Good dance song.

I know i'm gonna get called crazy, and stupid here, but I think in a way Y100 was a great station. The music they played wasn't the most popular, and they never did anything groundbreaking, but it had personality, its fanbase to this day is loyal to Y100 (keep inmind, most alternative fans think DRE was the better music station), and they were very community involved. Isn't that what makes a great station? I'm not saying it was as great as WFIL, or cau-fm, but for the today's radio, and in its own way. Any station can play the hits, but Y100 has an entire generation of rock fans who will compare every rock station they hear in this market for the rest of their lives to y100, which is basically the same thing people do now with WFIL, and WCAu-FM. I think this inpart is why CC didn't go with a modern rock station. They knew they would have to add alot of onair talent, who have a personality to compete with a station nolonger on the air, or the station would fail.

Ok, you can bash me now.

It was the magazine 60 song, but I will check out the Brenda Fassie song, since anything cau played at that time is something I'm going to remember and like.

Cau was just pure energy, it was always fun to listen to. It had the one element missing from radio today, I better turn XXXX on because if I don't I might be missing something. Listeners don't think like that anymore, at least in this market, they did in the 80's with cau.

The music was right on, a rhythmic lean for a station in the 80's, way ahead of its time. The Djs were the best, friendly, fun, and smooth.

As for y100, my views are known here I think, so I'm not going to trash anyone's honest opinion, I can respect what you say about y100. My only thing is that they station jumped on a bandwagon, rather than was a pioneer like dre and the major one, kroq.

I do know most of his weekend shows are voice tracked, but whenever I hear him in afternoon drive during the week, it sounds live. I guess I wouldn't like to hear him voice tracked on the 80's channel because I was used to him on WCAU-FM performing "spontaneous magic" if you will. :)

Agree with you (and you're welcome). Have you checked out Steve McVie's site? He's got quite a bit of CAU-FM audio files.
