Terry, your Pittsburgh radio guy from AAMCO?

Anyone caught that ad running for AAMCO Transmissions that features an endorsement
from "Terry, your Pittsburgh radio guy" who would never steer his listeners wrong?

I don't believe that an endorsement from "your local radio guy" has ever moved a single
piece of product, but if AAMCO wanted to go this route, couldn't they at least throw a
few bones to someone who has actually worked in the market instead of creating a
totally fake persona?

I am sure that "Terry" is also my "radio guy" in Phoenix, Baltimore, Green Bay, or anyplace
else where they want to sell transmissions. It captures the very worst qualities of the
advertising business....sort of like the Kenny Ross "Aunt Penny" commercials, which are
demonstrably a fraud, but have kept coming back for more than a quarter-century.

If you are going to engage in that behavior at least you can put a few dollars in
the pocket of a real Pittsburgh radio guy or gal.

Rarely are sleazy and campy captured so well in one 30-second spot.

Wow, I am glad someone else out there agrees with what I have been saying about this all along. When the spots first started, I just assumed "Terry" was some jock from a station I never listened to like WJAS or WLTJ. In time, I started to figure out "Terry" was a fraud.

I am just glad they quit using a talking picture of Aunt Penny. An animated one is nowhere near as creepy. I am sure that old bag has been dead since long before the late 80's when they started using her in those spots...

what does that say about Pittsburgh that ad campaigns which are certified and verified frauds
in this town can have the 30-year legs of an Aunt Penny? Lord help me if I have to put up
with Terry in my golden years. This one really perplexes me, because it can't possibly be
more expensive to line up a local air talent for your spots....in fact, it is probably cheaper.
Maybe AAMCO does such a lousy job of fixing transmissions that no local talent would
sign their name to it?

Not if you want a real person to do a testimonial spot. So they opt for the cheap route of a fake testimonial. And that's not a comment on the market or the sponsor, just the lame-brained ad agency that cooked it up. Plus they don't have to do the work to find out who to use in each market.
