Anyone caught that ad running for AAMCO Transmissions that features an endorsement
from "Terry, your Pittsburgh radio guy" who would never steer his listeners wrong?
I don't believe that an endorsement from "your local radio guy" has ever moved a single
piece of product, but if AAMCO wanted to go this route, couldn't they at least throw a
few bones to someone who has actually worked in the market instead of creating a
totally fake persona?
I am sure that "Terry" is also my "radio guy" in Phoenix, Baltimore, Green Bay, or anyplace
else where they want to sell transmissions. It captures the very worst qualities of the
advertising business....sort of like the Kenny Ross "Aunt Penny" commercials, which are
demonstrably a fraud, but have kept coming back for more than a quarter-century.
If you are going to engage in that behavior at least you can put a few dollars in
the pocket of a real Pittsburgh radio guy or gal.
Rarely are sleazy and campy captured so well in one 30-second spot.
