> >OK, when was he TOLD to put Tesh on?..you know, save some money. Was it the whole book? What a shame that a power house like Star just gave up..
The big question, can CC Binghamton make any money with Tesh, and those questionable ratings?..
and the answer is
NO...Has CC Binghamton ever made budget? Seems to me, that if they were making money, you might have people on the air. You see, when a big company brings in people who have no idea of how to go about running a radio station...what they want to do is leave the people in charge on, and lay off everybody else. So you have the operations manager, I don't know his name...diddle on a computer, and edit and load voice tracks, and tell the corperate people out of town that everything is great. Its all about the money.
and you make think CC has geat ratings..Local advertisers see right thru the "All Christmas" thing...Only looser stations do that, because they don't believe in what they have on the air...
Thats all..well theres more, but who cares, you know deep in your heart that star just sucks...about as much as mix..what a shame. I'm sure before the year is out, those stations will go thru more changes.

You're pretty good at responding to your own posts there, AFR. Your first post exhalts the genius of John Tesh eating away at Delilah's numbers on the sister station. Your second post echoes your own brilliance. If WMRV had any cajones, they would have gone back and reclaimed what Wild took. C'mon! A 50KW heritage station being turned out to pasture by a 10KW wonderkind? I'm not knocking Wild here...David did kick Goliath's ace here...only because the WMRV brass panicked and got out of the game too quickly. Bring in a night slammer like J.J. or Jerry and stop trying to hide in the crowded A/C forest with WLTB and WMXW. I give Tesh another book (if that), then the novelty is gone and Delilah is back on top in the demo with a fraction of her former share. The whole Delilah/Tesh thing in Binghamton is nothing more than CC robbing Peter to pay Paul. What are they trying to achieve here? I hope Wild enjoys the huge 12-34 gift WMRV has given them.

By the way, AFR, I'll keep your info handy for when I need somebody to handle propaganda on my behalf! As I have always heard, if you say something enough (whether it's true or not), everyone will eventually believe it. Somebody should trademark that "crazy like a fox" statement soon considering that is one animal not currently represented on the Binghamton FM band.

Ouch.... hey... I was just makin observations... I respectfully disagree with ya, but from a programming standpoint, both Delilah and Tesh do quite well in many markets.. and it looks like Binghamton is one of 'em... in the CC bldg, IMHO I think it was a good move... this way between both shows, CC pretty much owns nights. We'll have to see how the next book or two goes... but I believe they'll both do well in the market continually. They both may not be "hipper than the room" buuuuuut the audience made their votes in the fall book.

I remember when people were poo-pooing Delilah , saying that only a local love songs shows would do well on AC stations... Both locally & nationally, Delilah proved that to be wrong.

Look at markets using Kidd Kraddock in the morning... Bob & Sheri.... Rick & Bubba....Alice Cooper at Night..... sure, sometimes syndication doesn't work in particular markets... and sometimes the shows just fade into the darkness....but other times it does click, it does so quite well. Hate to burst bubbles and egos of some folks... but the reality is that from a financial and strategic standpoint, its not often that mid or small market stations can FIND talent as good as some of the above syndicated ones. That even applies to Large markets... some of the above shows (Delilah, Tesh, Kraddock, Alice Cooper)are also on in Top 20 markets... sure, sometimes the answer is local talent, sometimes not...

Clear Channel's responsibility is to put on programming and music that will score ratings (which in the fall book with the moves they did, they accomplished). Bash CC all you want, but my gut says that the moves they did will continue to pay off in the next book as well.

AFR..

P.S. - yes, I like to hear myself... one of the reasons why I'm in radio

I'd just like to mention... BEFORE anyone envokes the All Christmas hatred on Cool 100, that we didn't switch to All Christmas until the weekend after the book had ended.

For the record, I like the demo women 25-54 too... Especially during my time slot, Monday - Friday 7pm-midnight! ;-) <P ID="signature">______________

Today's leaders are too worried about bottom line to train any new talent... this is why we're talking about all the syndies and not about local ladies and gents. Honestly, how many stations are live with local talent 24/7 during the week any more?
