Tesh on PM Drive at Y94

It's not JUST the music...

One might surmise that Glen Hamilton is the odd man out.

One thing's for sure - John Tesh talks a LOT more than any local jock in PM Drive on any music station in town.

And says not a damn thing local. When I chance to hear his night time show on Mix 104 in Buffalo, he's talking about some wildly compelling topic, like "germs on your kitchen counter." PM Drive, you say? Feh!

What it really proves is that people will tune in to hear a jock who's allowed to offer something more than liners and positioning statements four times an hour over intros.

I'm sure some people will tune in,...but I won't be one of them. He has nothing to offer me.

Tesh!  "Intelligence for your(my) life".  Bah!

While he's obviously a bright guy - to me, that's a pretty arrogant for an on-air host to make to listeners!

I agree with you SirRoxalot.... its interesting, lots of times you see people harshing on the Tesh show on these boards, and most are primarly those who are not in the core demo of the station being discussed. Or it folks who think that the evil syndicators are taking over the airwaves... truth be told, in most cases, if a station didn't put on a syndicated show... they'd pipe in a voicetracker from elsewhere. Tesh happens to be on 300 stations because of the numbers he delivers. Some of the folks on here like the show.. others don't, that's their perogative. If the show didn't work, stations wouldn't carry it. What it comes down to is that the program does work, and does deliver numbers.

My point isn't so much that Tesh is entertaining, it's that he's at least allowed to try to be entertaining. I'd love to see what would happen to the numbers delivered by Tesh, Delilah, and their ilk if decent local talent had the freedom to interact with listeners more, take some phone calls, and (gasp) actually play a request or two. I'm not proposing a gab-fest, just a little less "voice guy", and a little more ownership of the show by a live jock.

....which is why the right individual is important, and hard to find. John Tesh is also a high class individual who knows how to speak on the air without pissing people off. Lowering the standards of air talent was the beginning of the end. Honestly I would rather see you stick to your liner cards than try to figure out what is right to say, especially if youre under 30. That would be FCC controlled stations. Mine? Fart in the microphone if you want to. ;D

As a radio traditionalist who remembers WOLF, WNDR, WHEN, and WKBW, anything that isn't live and local sucks. BUt I guess I'm just too old to count.

Im with ya Ms. If I could get some fellow old but not washed up's to go on my station from their homes, we could probably be 24/7. Problem (or maybe not a problem if you think about it) is everyone has to sell their own ads. PM me if anyone is interested, everyones invited. You people that laugh or stick your nose up to it guess what? This is how the business began except the high-tech transmitter doesnt take that much power. Hell, you could be currently employed at Clearchannel and use an alter-ego on my station. By the way I put a present on the turntable picture on my website, click on it and have a listen, its cool.

Syracuse is not a large city. The winters are horrible, but the Coney's are good. If you go to the tribute sites for WOLF and WNDR it is just astounding how much talent came outa Syracuse. There is just is no place any longer for this talent. As stations fill up airtime with satelite feeds and VT'ing--------radio becomes that much more irrelevant except as a place for far right blowhards to hone their craft.

Im actually a WNDR alum. I was taught for 13years by George, Dave, OB, and proudly can say I worked as one of the last live announcers on WNDR. That crew of old boys (and Ladies) taught me a world of knowledge over that time.
Remember....one thing about being snowed in and cold. How in the world can we work so hard shoveling snow here but still smile?? The answer is we get to keep each other warm.
One other thing you can relate to snow, I have discovered over the years, is we have a lot of extra time indoors. Our local Musicians are some of the most talented you will hear (feel free to buy a flatface and the shemp dells (lol) cd from ubl.com and have a listen). The people that listen to, and pick music in radio, or for their own collections, have plenty of time to think about it. Which used to produce some good radio. I would love to see a big signal, like Y-94 for instance, hire knowledgable talent for air and go live 24/7, even 10-2 at night. Promote a "playing what we want to" format and keep the music from the same era. Wouldnt be much differant of a format if you (again the key here is...) hire the right people and let them free form it.
