Texarkana Ratings Circus

Isn't BOB FM the #1 station in Texarkana..."as voted by the readers of 4 states living magazine"??? (I thought people just looked at the pictures!!! People actually read that fluff???)

ok...kicker is a non story. ktoy is a non story.

but what about the "also rans"? What are the "experts" out there thinking about the pretenders to the throne?

not the bottom feeders...but the ones that follow behind the leaders.

let's hear your radio wisdom.

I'm not sure what you looking for.

Who are the bottom feeders?

the bottom feeders...are those stations at the bottom of the 12+ list...pulling 2.0 or less.

what do you think is right and wrong...with the stations that do not have double digits like the top kkyr and ktoy? but are in the 4th 5th 6th and 7th positions.

what are they doing right? to be not at the bottom...and what could they do to get higher?

I'm impressed with the numbers for KFYX. Is this the first official book since the CHR switch? If so, it looks like they took quite a few listeners from Power. The Fix was up 2.6 points to 4.0, the highest that frequency has had maybe ever. KPWW down 2.2 to a 7.4, still good but the lowest they've had in a few years.
Texarkana Radio Co. seems to be doing everything right with The Fix & KTOY, but Bob continues to loose numbers and has every book since it first debuted. Now that they've finally got jocks on they'll reconnect with the audience. Another down book and it may be time for a change. Maybe put the Fix on 101.7 and spanish on the 107.1?
Magic is steady as she goes and didn't lose or gain any numbers. Clear Channel does well with their stations, even the Eagle, even though it continues to loose numbers. It's just not an attention grabber anymore, it sounds too much like 98 Rocks.
I'm so surprised that KEWL continues to gain numbers, and a 5.4 for Classic Country KPGG is not bad at all.

check your old books...107.1 had bigger numbers back when it was Border Country...than it has now...and was on an upward trend over several books...before the "smart" folks decided it didn't sound enough like kicker...and changed the thrust of the station...throwing it into reverse and decline. (I guess the bone the dog saw in the reflection of the water was just too much for them to stand...and so they let go of the bone they already had...and ended up losing both. A little radio Aesop fable for you.)

the best thing texarkana radio could do is dump Bob...and instead of moving the FiXX...bring back a country alternative to that 101.7 that will give listeners a true choice over kicker. Done right it would make for an interesting race. While kpig is doing ok for a classic country station. It just doesn't have the power or range to threaten kicker. An alternative country at the 101.7 would stand a much better chance.

yes...someone will do spanish sooner or later. IF they do it right...they will make money and maybe sound good...if not...just another crappy radio signal that people will listen to...because it's the "only spanish" station in town.

yeah...the eagle is 98 rocks North...boring.

and why do you think kewl is continuing to gain? The morning show? The afternoon request show? The music? The jocks? What's the magic formula? Or is it just dumb luck?

If KTOY is left alone...it will continue to do good.

I was going to pop into the LA forums and see if anyone knew where an old buddy had gone when I saw the topic here and had to pipe in...

107.1 saw AQH shares in the low 20's back in the mid 80's when it was the first FM country in the market.
I am not sure of the shares it pulled as "Studio 107" back in the disco days...Dorian Cox was the PD. The station must have been at least high teens then... Remember a promotion where they had a "Disco Dance Off" at Central Mall...the size of the crowd must have scared the sheets off the klan! Dorian also had a good (for the signal) book or two on KADO (940?) AM with a similar format.

I would think if you were not Clear Channel in Texarkana - you would covet the fire out of that signal (107.1). I was shocked when Texarkana Radio walked away from Country on that stick...

107.1 is a class A... Not exactly a strong, desirable signal..

And a 25 share back in the 80's would equal about a 5 share today.. those were county by county ratings..
