Texar's card 5 for an 8100

I found a special card 5 for an 8100 made by Texar and am looking for any information about it. It is marked RFC-1 copyright 1986 by Texar, INC and has three big potted modules on the board.

Is this a drop in upgrade for the 8100 or is this just to be used when adding Prisms to the air chain? Any one have any documentation about it they could scan and email?

It was designed to be used in the 8100 when using Prisms.

I have emailed you a Prism manual with RFC-1 documentation in the rear of the manual.

@mike,

With a faceplate ( the rcf1 plate ) the card will still have a value worth about 590 dollars in europe.
without, probably around 300 dollars.

Regards,

Good grief,i will have to dig out my old rcf 1 card and face plate, makes me wonder what a pair of gentner prisms are worth then,i have a pair of prisms but have not bothered to re calibrate them.
Do you think they will increase in value?

I paid around 700 dollars for a set of uncalibrated prisms.
Calibrating these units is a real bitch, but calibrated and serviced they should sell for 1250 dollars a pair here in europe.

A set of prisms and an RCF1 card ( both serviced and calibrated ) should sell for around 1800 dollars around here in europe.

Have a Prism/8100/Card-5 used as a pre-delay monitor feed & backup air processing. Still sounds sweet (except for the occasional mid-band clipping) even though it hasn't been touched in 15 years.

Those prices apply to the Netherlands in particular. They seem to have greated this mistery around vintage stuff (and not because out of shortage) so prices are unreasonably hi. Luckily we have Ebay to put things in perspective!

I honestly don't know about that. I've seen 8100's go for upwards of $4k+ on ebay - you could buy a brandy-new processor with a warranty for that much. Ebay, while sometimes good, is not the ultimate reality when it comes to real world pricing. I've seen stations trying to sell junk for the price of gold and they give you a look of a puzzled puppy when you tell them they aren't going to get anywhere near what they think they're going to get for something.

I agree with you, but some stuff offered on dutch boards goes for a lot more than ebay. I bought a Compellor on ebay for half the price as they go on dutch boards. And guess what the guy I was bidding against was dutch, while the guy selling the compellor from Italy was probably laughing is head off for the money he was getting.

Remember, that the prices i gave where for tested, recapped and serviced items.
A pair of untested uncalibrated, nor serviced prisms should not go for more then 700 dollar.
But a fully serviced, recapped and calibrated set of prisms? They might be worth a dime ofcourse. like 1200 dollars max.
