Texas Rangers Baseball

So is this the last year TRB will be on KRLD? If so, any buzz of another station entertaining a desire of picking up TRB next season? I know we’ve speculated on this in the past, but you’d think with the 2005 season almost halfway over, there’d be possible indication of interest? Or is it still too early?

Give me ESPN radio. I would also consider the Ticket but with the impending sale and such involving Susquehanna that would only murk up that possible situation, so that kinda rules them out.

I'm not a radio expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Remind me to skip the Holiday Inn Express. The sale of Susquehanna in no way impedes their ability to effectively pursue broadcast rights. They signed the 49ers to do a Bay Area triple-cast two weeks ago. That said, they aren’t putting The Rangers on The Ticket. For 2 reasons. The Ticket doesn't want the club telling them what they can or can’t say about the team. More importantly, they would be insane to preempt the hardline for all the day games and early starts required. If it goes Susq, it’s probably a KLIF deal. ESPN, as I understand is locked into the Mavs deal. The Rangers won’t accept all the Mavs preempts. I’d bet on a photo finish between KRLD and KLIF. Why do you think Infinity is out of the game?

Because Infinity is cheap, thats why. KLIF would be an interesting choice for Ranger ball, I just dont see it happening due to both an impending sale and KLIF is known as the "Fox Rightwing Network". But, I have a feeling WBAP might make a run at the Rangers. They were the flagship all those years at arlington stadium. Plus, they're located right in their back yard.

The trouble with WBAP is the Stars and ratings in PM Drive.

Well you're just too cool for school, aren't ya. There's not a damn thing you don't know about radio is there?

The Ticket would be the most likely successor. It would improve their real estate value when Susquehana sells. Baseball on the radio is not as powerful (except traditional markets Like NYC,Chicago, Boston)as it once was, amd canbe a liability.WBAP realizes this and would not chance the Stars(when they resume)over a Ranger game. The $Rangers are good so far this season, but look at their record overall, the often choke ( VERY FEW exceptions)soon after the all star break.

Look for an announcement a day or two either side of August 15th. It will cover the future home of the Rangers, as well as the Cowboys broadcasts.

And remember, you heard it HERE first!

So if I'm reading between the lines correctly, KLUV will get the Rangers, and the Cowboys will move to another Infinity FM?

Oldies and baseball are actually a good fit...

Any of you heard of Jamey Newberg?

From Newberg.
Jeff Cogen told local reporters that KLIF-570 AM is in the running for the club's radio broadcast rights, held through season's end by KRLD-1080 AM, which is negotiating to remain the club's flagship station. According to Sullivan, ESPN-103.3 FM is no longer in the mix. Evan Grant notes that Cogen hopes to make a final decision within the week.

I think Fly has it right.

Read between those lines a bit closer. You've got half of it right anyway.

It'll be interesting if KLIF gets the Rangers. I only hope they pour some decent money into both promotions and talent, esp. for the pre- and post-game wrapup/call-in. Wonder if Kevin Scott will still perform his "amazing jobber stylings" on diamond talk or will they spend the dinero and get someone in who knows the game in and out?

Cowboys go to......KLLI.

Wonder if that would mean a return of Rhyner and Williams to that slot.

> Cowboys go to......KLLI.

er, no.

Another Infinity _station_, yes. Consider what the Cowboys can do to help revitalize a former flagship, and what the station can do for Jerry Jones.
