Odd to have a switch made mid season. I assume the Rangers Sports Network distribution on cable/satellite is unaffected. Have to wonder what will happen with the Dallas Stars deal with Victory+.
According to the articles, the Stars own some equity in Victory+.Here's more, apparently Victory+ may be in financial trouble. Also the Anaheim Ducks terminated their deal with Victory+ today. Not looking good for V+'s continued carriage of the Dallas Stars.
The Ducks had over 60 games carried over the air via Fox's KCOP 13 "Fox 11+" there. The Stars only had a few simulcast on KDFW/KDFI.In a market as big as LA and Dallas going straight streaming was not going to work. Partnering with an over the air station may have helped Victory minus meet the revenue goals to afford the payments to the teams.
KDFI would have been perfect for OTA simulcast partner for the Stars. Maybe the costs of production and who controls the inventory was a problem as why Victory Minus could not make payments. The Stars probably control all the inventory so that’s why they are staying with Victory Minus. The Ducks had over 60 games carried over the air via Fox's KCOP 13 "Fox 11+" there. The Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Utah Mammoth, Vegas Golden Nights, Florida Panthers, Tampa Lightning, Nashville Predators all have a combo of over the air affiliates and a streaming solution. I wish the Stars could figure out the OTA piece as well.
